Oh crap. The car fell off the jack and something isn't right

My tire was flat in my driveway so my brother in law and I were going to jack up my Maxima, take my old tire off (Had to return the tire to Costco under warranty. Spare was on other tire that blew out a few days ago), and get my new tire. The jack that came with the Maxima was missing so he used the one off his Titan truck.

When he were trying to put the tire on while I was getting water, the jack slipped and the car fell. Today, I drove to work and when I get above 45, it sounds like my tire is flat. The way my car drives isn't affected at all either but I do hear that sound. Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump.

So I am assuming that something is off and needs to get fixed. So based on what I said, what could be wrong and how much would it cost to fix? Is this a problem that will get worse? Can I just ignore it?

My vote goes to a bad tire. Seems like you have a history with that.

Where was the jack positioned? I would say its probably tire related. Spare tires can be a bit loud especially if its tire pressure is low.

Did the car fall onto the brake rotor?

Yes, ignore it

For one, this is exactly why you use jack stands after you jack it up, not relying solely on the POS emergency jack. Read, emergency.

What did you have it jacked up by? How did it manage to 'slip'?

What exactly did the car fall on to? Onto the jack? On the rotor? If the rotor, then there's your problem.

Have you actually looked at it, or are you hoping for a blind guess from the org?

If you have two flat tires in a couple weeks, it's likely the others are bad too. examine/replace ALL of them before you finish this.

The first question comes in to my mind,Is what part of your car was on the jack. When the car fell did It hit the jack or It fell and It hit the rotors and the LCA. When the car fell did It also bent the fender and the frame, check It out really carefully and post a pic.

this is an example of why theres a lot to be said about purchasing a medium duty 2 ton small floor jack that will sit nicely in the trunk-$25 at most will do the trick. Good luck finding what may be broken.

guys...he was changing his tire. so most likely it hit the splash shield and that got dented into the rotor. the noise is the rotor (slight run out) hitting the splash shield. bend the splash shield back and it "should" be ok.

The splash shield makes a tin-like sound when hitting the rotor as the car rolls down the road. He is hearing something else.

For future reference next time you have a flat, place the spare tire under the car when your jacking it up, take off the flat, place that tire where the spare was, so in case it happens again the car falls on the tire and not the ground. 'Cause i bet it was a &itch trying to get the fallen jack out from under the car, and jacking it back up again. Might want to check that jack as well, that happened to me one time and the jack was literally bent sideways from when the car fell on it. I learned that trick from someone else, and have done that ever since. Good luck in finding what you broke.

Also make sure if you're going to jack up the car in any circumstances that you're on a flat surface. Seems you said you jacked it up in the driveway which are often an uphill slope which can always lead to bad things!!

My thoughts are that the wheel bearing may be shot. It makes that sort of muffled "whub whub whub" sound when there's one needing replacement.

Best bet? Have someone take a look at it/drive it who knows what they're doing. What we think you're hearing could be totally different than what you're actually hearing.

did you check on the back of you rotor to see if that metal plate is hitting on your rotor, i forget what its called. maybe when the car fell the metal plate bended and that's way its making that noise.
