Ah, ****! Finally happened.

Well, hello all. The time has come for me to take my place in here with all the other maxima owners. I come from hostile country: SHOforum...hehe. Drive a 92 5spd with a few bolt ons. Enough to take care of most Maximas. The 02 model finally done caught up with the sho, though. Cought up and passed, I should say. Took a 6speed out for a spin, and that was the end. Im now waiting on a black SE....well, like the sig says. Dont know if i'll get the LSD, though. If its available, would like, since all that torque is going to make putting the power down in a corner interesting.

Anyway, thought i'd say hello. Live in the bay area, 23 yrs old, cant wait for the car, etc etc.

cheers,
oz

Re: Ah, ****! Finally happened.

Sorry but the 00 5spd would take a SHO without any problems. I have done so many already its not funny anymore! The 02 would SMOKE the SHO.

My wife and I together have owned 4 SHO's, the last one being a 94 5 speed.

I ran one night at the slow track, Commerce, while a new 00 Maxima 5 speed ran also. Both of us had terrible launches, the SHO doesn't have a pull brake, and its a lot harder to launch, but in the end we both ran almost dead even with the same terrible 60 ft. times.

15.2's at close to 93 m.p.h. Both cars were stock. At a lower track, even with the same crappy 60 ft's, both cars would have ran high 14's. Better 60 ft's and even a little better from there.

My point was that the 00 ran about dead even with my 94 SHO.

As for the new guy, welcome, you'll find the Maxima is far nicer and much more reliable than the SHO. The SHO had a great Yamaha heart, but in the end it was a Ford.

Well, I still have the sho.....grin.

I said that my particular sho could dust most maximas. I think a stock sho vs a stock max would come down to the driver. Its not all that easy to drive a sho fast.

ANyway, thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to yakking with y'all. Incidentally, anyone in the bay area go the drags? I go occassionally, hardly ever see a max.

was your car fast enough to run 14.32 through the 1/4mi? mine's a 97, not an 02. get rid of the Slow Heavy Object and get a slightly quicker heavy object.

Looks like you will be the 1st confirmed case of a 2k2 6 spd with Navigation!

Everyone else settles for all options without it, or just a sunroof

You guys all bash SHOs. Why? The engine was built by a Japan company, Yamaha. And if you haven't noticed, the SHO guys have SC and turbos on their SHOs. More than we have. There is even a company offering complete rebuilts and upgrades for the Yamaha engine. Cams too I believe. Some of those built na and forced inducted engines are putting down some fast times.

Try being a little more informed before bashing please. Plus they had brake and oil info all prepared and up on their site before you guys even knew what synthetic oil was. Sheesh.

i didn't mean to bash the SHO. great car. i was impressed when i first read about it in the early 90s. that for sure was the first 4 door sleeper. now, if the maxima would only lose more weight we could put the estimated 200+hp to better use.

yeah, you do run across the occasional sho with a 12psi vortech. my friend who works on my sho has one. 447hp at the front wheels. he uses it for open tracking. so far i think the record is over 550 at the wheels. that particular car is being configured to run 200mph in the silver state (nevada). kinda risky, i think.....

but yeah, considering its age, the sho is a fine car. i think the new max embodies alot of qualities which were present on the sho back in 89: speed, comfort, handling etc.

I am considering a 95 SHO 5 speed, silver. I would be keeping the Maxima, of course.

I want another toy, and the SHO is fast, fun and can carry a lot of ppl and luggage, like the Max.

I drove it yesterday, and while the Maxima is easier to launch, the top end on this SHO feels stronger than my Maxima, which ran a 14.715 stock. I am thinking this particular SHO could run a mid 14.

If I buy it I will let you know what it does at the strip.

Risky? You think? A FWD runing 200MPH?

Granted, the SHO has it's strong points, but I don't think that running the Silver State in a SHO is the brightest idea. Hope it has a good roll cage.

Good luck to your friend. Tough race. Been there.

The SHO is one of the biggest pieces of **** on the road. And I have the right to bash, I used to have one. Like Sprint said, very appealing car, mine was a 93 auto. It was appealing, and I thought it looked good. But that car fell apart at 80,000 miles. The quality of that car was absolutely awful. I had to tighten the door jam thing by hand every other day just so my door would stay shut. Let's see, 3 trannys, a radiator, water pump, 700 bucks worth of sensors, oil leaks galore...the list goes on and on.....I will never, ever, ever own a domestic again. It was fast, though my Max is quicker. For some reason that engine lacked torque below 4 grand, or maybe it's that the VQ has such great torque. That SHO would get up and go though, the engine screamed!! Over 5 grand was spent to maintain that car, and that was in a year period.

SHO= Sh*t Happens Often....

I have a 93 auto sho with a y pipe and dynomax cat back it has great power but at 130,000 miles i have a wiring problem that is causing the car to buck like crazy
But i just replaced it with a 99 gxe 5 speed and i love it
no mods yet but i love the power and the smoothness of the engine,
it has the 15" steel wheels for now but it i get 17" like 245/45/17 will my speedo be off? and if it is i think it will show slower than i am actually going is this correct?
