2000 max for $5k?
This is pretty long (but very cool)...
Okay, I've been depating over what car to get for quite some time now. I've finally, after much deep consideration, narrowed my search down to these cars:
1) 86-88 Honda RX78
2) 87-93 Ford Mustang GT
3) 89-98 Nissan 210sx
4) 87-92 Toyota Supra
5) 92-94 Nissan Maxima SE 5spd
All cars would be manuel if possible. Now, I know the Mustang is and American car, and the 240's a 4-banger, but they have great modding potential. The supra's getting to be as hard to find as the max i'm lookin for, and the RX7's got a rotary engine (which'll crap out on me pretty soon if I'm lucky enough to get one with only 100k miles). All of the cars are about $5k or under.
Now, my friend (who's family consists mainly of doctors) and I usually talk cars. He doesn't have one. He's never really wanted one. His father said that he'll give my friend $10k to go buy whatever vehicle he wants when he goes to college. Now, I wish my parents were that rich. Well, my friends uncle (who works as a brain-surgen making 4million+ a year) just recently bought a Lamborgini (I think that's the right spelling) and wants to get rid of his old 2k max. I asked my friend how much his uncle would sell it for (just seeing if I could get some deal on it). My friend said he'd ask, but he's not sure his uncle would sell it to me very cheap. Well, the next day, when I talked to him, he said his uncle didn't care about the car, and would give him it. Just GIVE him the car. For FREE. I flipped out. I asked him if he would ever sell it. He said he probably would around summer time cause he doesn't really want a car, and wants to hold his dad up on that $10k offer. So he said he'd sell me the max for about $5k. I thought he was joking, and told him what it sells for on the used market, and he said he'd still sell it to me for $5k. Sweet! Here's the details:
22k miles (mostly highway)
Navy blue color
auto
probably a GLE (it has leather and a BUNCH of options (probably all of them)).
Now, my question is - do I take my friend up on his offer, or should I just try and get one of the other 5 cars I've been looking for? Oh, whatever car I'm getting, I'm going all-out on mods.
-Oh, I'm not joking. When he was bragging about his family being all doctors, I thought he was making up some huge lie, but when I went to his house and saw all the degrees and pictures and expensive stuff, I finally relized how much I wish I had a life like that.

I offered the $5k
He just said okay to it. One of my other friends said I should buy the car and resell it (making a $10k profit) too. I don't think I'd want to do that (do you go and sell all your b-day and x-mas presents for stuff you REALLY want?). Anyway, he's dead serious. He'll sell it to me as long as I show him how to do some modding and install a killer sound system. I asked him why he'd do it on the max if he was just gonna sell it to me, and he said he wanted to learn how to do it in the first place, so he could do it on the car his dad'll buy him. He's also gonna take out all the mods/audio stuff before he gives it to me (unless I wanna pay extra).
I won't be able to get it untill late May, though.

Calm down.
He said he'd sell it to me first. If I change my mind, then he'll sell it somewhere else. If you wanna choke me, though, leave now and you can probably get here by Saturday morning. I'll be waiting at my door with my paintball gun and the over-pressured CO2 tank in it. You know what hurts? Frozen paintballs.

Don't get your hopes up. You know what will probably happen right? Your friend will get the 00 max{if your lucky} and he will either want to keep it or he will try to get the 10 grand from his father and his father won't give it to him becuase he allready has a nice car for college. Sorry for the run on sentence. Good luck.

Actually...
He's selling it cause he doesn't want the max. He wants a sports car, not a 4-door family sedan. If he sells the max, then his dad WILL give him the $10k. I kept askin him if he was jokin around, and he said he's not. He knows it's a powerfull car and how much hp it's packin under the hood, but it's not what he wants. He's not gonna mod it. He's only gonna put a sound system in (temporarily). He knows how much it's worth, but he'd rather sell it to a friend (me) for $5k and learn some neat skills than sell it for $15k and learn nothing from me (I'd have probably tought him anyway). Basically, all he keeps sayin is "Hey, I'm getting it for free. I'm making a $5k profit off you." I think he doesn't want to sell it for more cause his uncle may think he's just greedy and only cares about $$$. I kept offering more for it, cause I feel like I'm ripping him off, but he insists he only wants $5k. Hmm, pays off to have nice friends.
oh, I meant 86-88 RX7. I must have it 7 and 8 at the same time.

My dad has had three different generation Supra's. He had and an 85 no turbo (5spd), 89 no turbo (5spd), 91 or 92 turbo (5spd), and a 93 twin turbo (6spd).... Unless you get one with a turbo then the Maxima will run on it.

Those turbos are one-in-a-billion. I'd have SO much trouble just finding one, and most people who had the turbo 5spd usually have high miles or ran the car pretty hard. I'd be spendin all my modding money on upkeep.
Truthfully, if I could find a turbo 5spd supra for pretty cheap in good condition, I'd get that instead of my friends max.
And before someone mentions something, I'm not gonna get my friends max for $5k and then sell it not long after for $15k+. That would really make me hate myself for usin someone who's a good pal of yours just so you could get some extra $$$. I'm pretty settled on getting the max anyway (more practical in the long run).
