I just talked to a friend of mine who has been researching on the philips kit with the beam correction. anyways, got-rice or someone else on this forum...pls check on this...I may be wrong...but here is what I learnt.

well, the HID blubs come in 2 sizes...one is with the last prefix as S and the other is R or something like that? well, what I learnt is that S is for projector beam headlight housing equipped cars whereas R is for free-form housing like our 9004 housings...!

wonder if what I learnt from my friend holds any weight or am I just relaying some jibberish sh*#t?

for everyone's thoughts and comments, please.

thanks.

That information is correct >>

But, here's the rub. THe housing reflectors that Maximas use do not reflect the bulb light in the correct pattern. They throw strayu light in all directions, the worst being up...right into the eyes of oncoming drivers. So, even if you were to increase the intensity of the light (HID kits), you're still being a nusiance to other drivers.

A lot of newer cars are equipped with headlamps that comply with E-codes and new FMVSS108 codes. These headlamps have the correct beam patterns built into the reflectors (remember high school physics?). And of course, quite a few new cars (like the 5th Gen Maxima) are using the H4/9003 bulb...which has the high end cutoff built right in.

Yep, bulb D2S = projector lense; bulb D2R = reflective lense.

The key here is the fact that 9004 has fillements that are horizontal and HIDs bulbs are not, they are vertica. The reflectors are designed with that in mind.

How do we get E-code lamps for our cars??

Re: Albertt!!

Take headlighs from Maximas in Europe and graft it into the car.

Shing's right.

THere is one owner who did this. Spent thousands importing the front end of the Cefiro and grafting it to his 4th gen SE. You'll need the fenders, hood, grille and bumper to make all this happen. Plus, the $350 headlight assemblies. It uses the H4 bulb, has the parking/corner light integral with the headlamp and even has a built-in city light.

I just bought E-Code lights for my Miata.. DAMN what a difference!!!!!! The beam pattern has changed drastically for the better.

<img src="http://www.cyberhosts.net/~gotrice/personal/miata/lights/eurolights01.jpg">
on the left, the Hella E-Codes, on the right the stock ones<HR>

<img src="http://www.cyberhosts.net/~gotrice/personal/miata/lights/eurolights02.jpg">
on the left the E-Codes, right stock. You can see the lighting slash style of the E-Codes. Same beam pattern that I had on my 300ZX. The light is dispersed much more evenly. The stock one has the light focused at one point.

<img src="http://www.cyberhosts.net/~gotrice/personal/miata/lights/eurolights03.jpg">
The pics don't do the altered beam patterns justice. Lighting has increased 40-50% at night.. lateral lighting has improved drastically. I was going to get some PIAA 1490s to improve my lateral lighting, but with the E-Codes I no longer need them

so having said all these....! hum, guess we'd either have to wait for Shing and his research on the possibility of grafting the infiniti J30 headlight housing...or does anyone know if a JDM / Asian spec headlight housing would be diff?

cos since I'm stopping over in Osaka enroute to Singapore this Christmas,...perhaps I can go check it out and see..?!

hum, does anyone here have a spare headlight housing lying around? maybe I'd take it home with me to compare it with the JDM parts..
