yo_its_ok's Words:

There is no VIN to distinguish LSD tranny from Regular Tranny. There might be a provision for a Canadian Tranny or I30t, but I have to look that up.
VIN # Decode 1-3 = manufactured J=Japan, 1=USA.
4 = Engine type...unsure if this constitutes anything w/ Tranny.
5-10 unsure...last 6 are serial # for the car.

Okay so is there a part number????

So whats the part number??? There's got to be a way to visually distinguish between the normal and VLSD transmissions. There's got to be a difference in the part number.

There is a code for the LSD tranny. Daniel B. Martin once gave us this information. I couln'd come up with it using search, but I do remember the post. I actually went and looked at my code just to see if SE-Limited's came with that tranny. I think there was a V someplace in the code. Ask a Canadian or I30T owner to look at his engine code.

The engine and tranny codes are on the passenger side fire wall.

it's in the tranny code, not the VIN. if it ends with a V, it's viscous limited slip. if it's an A, then you've got a regular tranny.
