WTF?

I know that this is not a Maxima post, but maybe some maxima enthusiasts had this happened to them. My girfriend has Mazda 3. On the way to work today, she put A/C on and white smoke start coming out inside the cabin instead of cold air. Temp gauge was at normal position and no error codes of any kind. No smoke out of the hood as well. WTF could it possibly be? I have never heard of something like this.
Please, help.

Actually there was someone on the forum that had a similar problem. Trying searching white smoke or something along those lines.

Im assuming it smelled like burning or something melting.

start working your way through the system and see if you can narrow anything down.

Does it only happen with the A/C on?

Does the fan still work? Does it make any strange noises

Was the system recirculating air or bringing in air from outside?

Just thinking about it the only thing I can think of in the system that might cause smoke is if somehow the blower motor was burning up. Unless the system was bringing in fresh air from outside then you could be pulling it in from the engine compartment and, she may have not noticed that problem because she was focused on the smoke in the cabin

She likely has a leak in the A/C system. They will do that if there is too much air/not enough freon in the system. Take the car into an A/C shop and have it checked out. There is supposed to be a pressure switch that is supposed to stop that from happening.

But yes it's scary, early in my driving career I had an 85 F-150 do that to me on a busy street. Freaked me the farg out. Dad figured it out and turned the A/C off and later on we ran by the store and got some R-12. Added it back into the system and all was well. Well till the rest of that POS fell apart.

Oh and yea we do have an "Other Cars" forum here for these questions.

Thanks guys for all your help.
We went to mechanic later on today. He cheked up everything and said that nothing is wrong with the car. What it was is some evaporation from condensation. Sounded weird to me, but he said it happens very rarely. By putting AC on, nothing was wrong. No burning smell, no smoke. We drove a car for awhile and everything was fine. Maybe it was some weird morning start up.
I'm glad that nothing is serious. We'll still be on guard.

That used to happen in my old Prelude. It happens when there is a ton of moisture in the air and in the evaporator. Switch the a/c on and the ice cold air hits the moisture and what you see is similar to what you see when you open the refridg or freezer on a warm humid day. It just blows sort of a cool cloud of mist briefly.
