Shingles! At least give the guy some direction. Here's a link->

<A HREF="https://maxima.org/forums/showthread.phtml?threadid=398">Amsoil post</A>

Has some decent info....

Also numerous other posts by myself, Shingles, and Jeff92se cover the Amsoil topic fairly well.

Good luck!

The best oil is NOT

Amsoil/redline/mobil/castrol/sunflower...etc.
Curiously, the best engine oil is a FRESH oil! 5k is optimal change range for a moderate climate/driving conditions.
But if you're crazy about your baby (me too), feed it with a good brand name stuff.
Good luck,

But it's NOT 5K, or 3K... I have proof that after 7500 miles Mobile 5W30 is still WELL within acceptable range of use.

3K is just what Jiffy Lube wants you to remember. Moderate driving conditions, even your service manual says 7500 miles.

DDD, you're wrong.

If oil protects just as well in the beginning as it does at 25k, why would you change it?

That just makes no sense.

I understand it making you 'feel' better, but it's unnecessary to change that frequently, at least with Amsoil or Mobile 1.

FRESH has nothing to do with whether oil does its job. It's when the additive package/detergents in the oil break down that you have to be concerned. Amsoil guarantees its stuff for 25k, and Shingles has proven that Mobile goes at least 7500miles with lab results....

I feel another flaming post coming on....

Where's Jeff anyway?

I am pushing 8000miles on this change. I have to check the odometer.... I am due for an oil change any time now... I could change it today, but I don't think it will be at 8000 miles. I'll be sending this sample in as well.

Shing, do us a favor and wait until 9k or

9.5k.

I don't think enough people will be convinced with 8k results.

PLEASE!

Hrmm... that mean I just have to wait till this weekend. Literally. hehe. I can wait 3 days.

BTW I check my dipstick the other day.. oil was golden brown(darker brown), not black... after 7000 miles.

10 - 15,000 miles on synthetics

BMW, Mercedes, and probably some other premium brands come with free maintenance and synthetic oil. They have an oil change indicator light that tells you when the oil needs to be changed. You cannot get your oil changed early unless you pay for it, and you risk voiding the warrantee if you go beyond the indicator, so it is designed to be fairly accurate as to when the oil needs to be changed.

Bear in mind that many (if not most) of these cars are leased, so the manufacturer wants to ensure the oil changes are done promptly, as they will likely bear the burden of any premature engine wear.

Amsoil claims (and Mobil 1 used to) that a car can go up to 25,000 mile safely between changes. This may be true, but the filter will need to be changed more often than that. If you have to change the filter, why not go ahead and change the oil, too? That's why the timing hovers around 10 - 15,000.

BTW - I use Mobil 1 and change my oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Do I need to change it this often? - no. But, it doesn't hurt, and it is nice, round number that is easy to remember, and I also rotate my tires at the same time...

We keep rehashing the SAME OL' arguement. MI2SE, heh, I use Mizuno GRAD blades for my clubs and like the Precept EV *****. What's your GHIN #? I hover at about 12-13.

Like Jeff said... we keep rehashing this same topic.

Yes you can change your oil ever 3k if you want, or 5k... but the fact is you don't have to with good synthetics. If you want to, fine, but you don't have to.

It's all in the short game. Learn to lag putt and chip, then the game is yours. It's really what the difference between an okay golfer and a good golfer.

My main problem is consistency. Living in Michigan, I've been trying to play as much as possible before winter sets in. On Friday, my longer shots were off-target, and my chips weren't close. The very next day I was making almost all of my approaches, both long and short, but couldn't make a putt.
