question about blow off valve and its uses, racing with turbo eclipse Questions

1) are blow off value only effective on turbos?

2) i raced a eclipse with a blow off value few month ago, i just realize he must had a turbo, at least the stock turbo, since i could hear the blow off valve. since you must have turbo or sc in order to have blow off value, this dude at least have a stock turbo.

3) final questions, now even if this dude I raced had a stock turbo, he still could run mid 14's However i walked him like I walk civics. my car is stock. we raced several times from 60 , from 70, 80, all those raced he werent even close. a stock maxima runs 15's or 16's . how could i walk him like that. walk=6 cars length or longer.

No. Superchargers and Turboes.

blow off valves can only be used on cars with forced induction like S/C or turbos

2) i raced a eclipse with a blow off value few month ago, i just realize he must had a turbo, at least the stock turbo, since i could hear the blow off valve. since you must have turbo or sc in order to have blow off value, this dude at least have a stock turbo.

Yes, he must have had the stock turbo, like those found on GSX's and GST's and perhaps maybe even an aftermarket turbo setup

I've seen automatic FWD DSMs running 16s at the track. One guy had intake and exhaust and ran a best of 16.03... he was a friend of a friend.

I think you are giving Eclipses way to much credit. Stock for stock, Maximas OWN! Sure Eclipses have more HP, but damn, its a little four banger. NO TORQUE! The turbo would make up for it, but by the time the stock turbo completely spools up, the race is over!

I knew someone was gonna say something about my forced induction comment glad it was you. I personally never considered NOS forced induction, but i've never considered it N/A either I dunno what i've been thinking for the past years. But anyways, i thought you had forced induction. I thought you had a S/C or was i just tripping?

well if your talkin stock for stock, the Max might beat it out. When you go into the world of aftermarket, there is much more potential for the DSM.
13.8-13.9 for $700 in mods isnt good??

i question the need for a blow off valve on a near stock turbo setup..back in the late 80's or early 90's i'd pick up a TURBO magazine and blow off valves were not "in style." my father let me take his WRX to the track and ran a 14.6 with it in stock form. a buddy of mine also has a WRX. the only difference is he has a 5ziggen fireball exhaust, shortshifter, AND a blowoff valve. he doesn't run any quicker. in fact my time's sound a little better than his especially since i only ran the WRX for one night and he drives his everyday. i must admit the blowoff valve is for vanity purposes when in a near stock turbo car running stock boost. it sounds great! the stock WRX has it's own blowoff valve design that recirculates the wasted air back into the intake.

also, i enjoy racing the 97 maxima a lot more than racing the WRX. my car (14.32)is faster AND MORE CONSISTENT than me driving my dad's WRX (14.6-15.3 due to heatsoak) anyway. my times in the WRX vary by more than a second due to high rpm launching the AWD and the heatsoak in the intercooler! the maxima has a tremendous lowend/midrange torque advantage over most stock 4 cyl turbo setups. turbo setups usually have lag even when they are in a reasonable gear. the driver has to work hard to keep it in an appropriate high revving gear. i'm still a big fan of turbos. it might be my next real project. i might let the maxima go when it's time to go to a turbo setup ala SR20DET in an old 240sx chassis
