Car wash question...

Its real cold out right now (about 30), and my car is real dirty. I want to clean it, but its far too cold for me. There's this brushless car wash in my area, and I'm thinking of taking it there, but I'm afraid of getting scratches from whatever. What do you guys think I should do? Please don't flame me cause I wanna take the easy way out.

BTW, it won't be warming up for a couple months, so waiting isn't an option.

Is it one of those touch free ones? They are okay at best. They will get some top stuff out and leave the car cleaner but not always the best. I do like though how it does bnot have the big brushes. It should get the job done good enough though.

Brushless is OK

Brushless is OK. There's a really nice brushless car wash by me as well. During the winter months I usually take my baby through once a week or so. Never had a scratch or swirl mark from it. I do have hot and cold water outside so washing my car with warm water in the winter isn't a problem. But when it's really cold, the brushless car wash is fine.

Here in Minnesota I go to a full service wash during winter. It has brushes, but never had a problem. They have to dry it and hand wipe all the doors or it would freeze. Just had mine washed at lunch. It's 12F now.

Have used the "brushless" washes on my wife's car. But never mine... he he he

Had heard that water jets could pit the paint or damage it, if there was already sand and other types of dirt on your paint. Basically, you're pushing the dirt and grime into the paint with the jets. Didn't know if it was true, but didn't want to take a chance.

Had also heard similiar horror stories with using compressed air to dry your car. That if the area is full of sand or dirt you could be blowing the stuff into your paint.

I'm just guessing here, but I would think that if done at an angle and not directly at the paint, you would be better off.

I used to go to this auto wash we have and it seems pretty safe and didnt notice any damage or scraches. What Im afraid of is scraching the rims on the tire rails they have there.

Those "brushless" carwashes leave a nasty haze on my car, plus they strips off all my polish ......

Well, since I'm not lucky enough to have warm water outside, I have to either choose to wash my car myself and possibly have the water freeze on it, or take it to the wash. I don't want my polish to be removed, but I don't think I have much of a choice. What should I do?

Re: Car wash question...

i do that every once in a while...it has yet to damage my baby. but i only do it when she really needs it and i don't have the time to give it to her. i used to just bring it to those places where they wash it (hand wash) cause i thought that was best. but they've done WAY too much damage to my baby.
