My Car: The Torquey Bastard
I'm in the left lane at a light and guy in a Merc E420 AMG is to my right. I was going to try to get out in front so I could take a right at the next intersection. So this is where a little fun begins:
The light turned green and I lay on it just a bit but then the guy in his $70000 Merc does the same. So then I floor it. Then he floors it. What am I getting at? I thought his car would at least pulled on me. Didn't pull one bit . I thought E420 AMGs had more ***** than that.
I wouldn't call this a kill. It was more like a test of power and I have it.

There is no such thing as an AMG E420.

I know there's a E55 AMG, could it be a German Ricer???
What gives?

AMG offered packages for MB's cars before they had their cars sold at the dealership. There are a lot of E420s with AMG, Brabus, and Lorinser packages which could be anywhere from interior upgrades to exhaust to all out performance upgrades like the E55. More than likely, you met with an E420 with minor upgrades such as exhaust, intake, or some minor drivetrain modifications.

Oh come on people...
Of course there is an E420 AMG. AMG was the designer of the sports package. I'm sure it said AMG on the wheels and "Sport" on the side, and did the wheels look a little big - kinda like aftermarket ones? Those are all symptoms of the E420 Sport. BTW, the old E420 makes more hp than the new E430, so if you can hang with the old one you can with the new one to! (But don't try it because they're supposed to be 6.1 seconds to 60 MpH cars!)

The '97 E420 Sport didn't have an AMG badge on it. The Sport package added a mild color-matched aero kit and 17x7.5 AMG Aero II Monoblocks. It looks considerably different from the E55, with its more-aggressive aero kit, flared fenders, lower stance, and 18x9s in the rear. And the E420 and E430 have the exact same peak horsepower and torque ratings (275hp and 295lb/ft).

I passed a black one yesterday. I guess the guy was breaking it in. I tried to taunt him into lighting it up, but it was a no go. The E55 is my next car.

Then the owner just stuck an AMG badge onto it, 'cause there's no such thing from the factory. It sounds like it wasn't modded either.
