Autolock warning....(long)

Me be stupid... but I gotta share...

I have an AUTOLOCK that I use on the brake pedal. I have a 5-speed. Not a good combo. I was aware (and accidentally did a few times) start driving the car with the autolock on. It's possible to start the car and start driving. Most of the time I catch myself and I use the tacky yellow steering wheel cover to remind me to take the lock off the brake pedal.

TODAY... I forgot... I was about to leave the parking lot to the street and... OH ****, no brakes! Pulled hard on the E-Brake... locking them up (screeching!) but made it halfway across the street (was supposed to turn left or right!) after banging my front end into the ground. To top it off. I did this right in front of people standing in line at the movie theater across the street. FREE COMEDY SHOW... Quickly pulled the keys and unlocked the AUTOLOCK while acting cool (as if that were possible).

Lucky there were not any cars coming or one of you lucky bastards would be buying my (virtually) new V2

I'm going to wire up a relay to keep me (or anyone else) from starting the car without having the brake pedal depress... I never want to try that again.

Live and learn. At least you didn't brake, um uh, I mean break anything!

Won't the Autolock work on the clutch pedal. It would still stop someone from starting the car.

Yeah, the infomercial says that the Autolock attaches to the brake pedal on automatics and to the clutch on 5-speeds. You're forgiven though. Glad you didn't get hurt!!

I know it will work on the Clutch but I prefered the brake cuz the pedal location makes it much made it much more difficult to let a thief get under the dash...

I envy the autos in this respect...

No big... nothing a relay won't fix.

Yep...just run the relay off the rear taillights switch. I seen the switch under my dash. Two wires go into the switch.

Second Warning about Autolock

Recently my clutch fluid reserve was empty. I filled it and bled the system and it works fine. I can't find any leaks.

Ok now to the point - i think putting my autolock on too tight on the clutch peddle put pressure on and made the clutch master cylinder leak.

I could be wrong but I think this is what happened...

I'm a bit confused >>

Wouldn't you kick the Autolock with your right foot on your way in? How do you miss a large red metal rod mounted between your legs?

I have an auto, no problem with autolock. Can't move out of park without the brake pedal depressed. Works great!

u can still shift the car before u start it into N without pressing the brake. when the car is in N then u can still start it and put it into D without pressing the brake.

My brother asked me the same thing.... The lock is positioned so high up and close to the knee panel that you can get into the car without kicking it...

Anyways... relay is in so I don't have to worry about it anymore.
