more detail on problems

Hey there, I just bought a 1998 maxima with 190,000 k on it and it was running great up until someone stole it and ran it at 200 kms per hr for long periods of time.. I got it back and all oil was gone from engine i filled it back up, anyways...
At first the car would start fine but it would sputter when in drive and at cruising speed, now it wont start for a few tries and it still sputters and smells of gas after awile.

Can anyone help me out with this??? I dont have crazy amounts of money to go and get it diagnosed and fixed. Going to have to try to do myself, any starting points???

Anything would help

Thanks.

Oh yeah is it safe to drive with this problem?

For those in the US, 200 kph is 125 mph. The fact that the engine was almost out of oil is a GIANT concern. The engine was running without proper lubrication, probably at low oil pressure and the little bit of oil that there was did not have a chance to cool so the bearings were running hot. Hot oil gets thinner with heat and that is exactly opposite of what the engine needs at high speed, high loads.

Start by doing a compression check and see what that shows.

Well I dont think compression is the prob, atleast i hope not. it seems more of a sensor problem or bad coils.

Yeah because stealing cars and driving them fast with low oil is bad for sensors and coils??

If you want help, follow the advice given. If your going to ignore advice from knowledgeable people and stick to your preconceived notions, then go home.

You most likely have issues with the pistons and cylinders. worn rings will cause low compression to the point of not running, and oil consumption. Check your compression before spending money on anything else. Any codes?

Have you looked under the hood at all? Those codes are not necessairly related and I'm wondering if there are vacuum hoses disconnected or broken off, wire harness connections ripped off, etc.
