Are Cali. cars totally rust-free?

When I see how much rust has attacked and won, over the last 14 years on the road, I just wonder what if my 4th gen were given a life on the road in cali....does that mean no lower rad problem, no rust on suspension components, etc.?

Cali is a big state. coastal locations will have some rust due to the salt air. Some snowy locations might salt the roads, but typically they use sand. Cali overall will be better than the northeast from what Ive heard. I lived in northern Cali (eureka area) where rust was a major concern. CVentral Cali should be good.

As long as you don't live along the beach or in the mountains where it snows, CA cars typically don't rust at all.

I'm located in New Jersey, the middle of the rust belt.

I just did a suspension on a car that came over from Cali 2 months ago. My god, the chassis was pristine. I've never seen anything like it except on the showroom floor. Doing the suspension job was a breeze, a blissful walk in the park.

Wish they were all like that

Ride is great. Even in NYC roads with my stock 16s the ride is more firm but not harsh at all. I can actually get on it in the city and not fear for my dental work

FYI I bought my Cali car in Sept 2011. The carfax says it lived in the suburbs of LA all of its life.

What initially drew me to the car was that it's a 98, the year before Nissan went crazy with emissions on cali maximas. The stock OEM 16" rims were PERFECT, like new. This was on a car with 150K miles. Sadly, that is no longer the case They still look good , though. Also, I was happily surprised to find that the 98 I30 has perforated tan leather, something that was exclusive to the 99 Max SE-Ls

On closer inpsection, the underboday is completely rust free, including the rad support. Underbody looks as good as new.

Drawback to a rustfree, or dry car?
The wipers wers so shot they disntegrated I have never seen anything like that in my life. No biggie, though, just replaced them with Autozone duralast aero wipers. They actually work better they faster you go. I LIKE THAT

Also, in the interior, I did some work on my rear Bose speakers. when I removed the rear fuzzy pillars, they completely disintegrated. I chalk that up to the plastic getting so brittle due to the dry climate it has lived in and the fact that the AC was probably on all the time, making things even more dry. I had to spend $200 in OEM parts to replace them. The interior was just too beautiful to let those glaring corner pillars stand with such extreme ugliness.

That's amazing, like a time warp! I just see how rust has attacked my car over the years, and imagine what it might be like if it lived its life in LA or something.....
