WHo said nissan is bad.
My friend bought a 99 accord and now he wants to sell it. WHY? Because of the tranny problems found on V6 accord and 5A Acura TL. We went to the dealer and they insisted that Honda is the best and Nissan sucks. I was about to murder the guy. I have 114K and drives like new(those who drove my car know it) and his accord got 66K and power steering is bad and tranny. Also there were new TL in the shop. 3 out of 4 had tranny removed(broken). I rather have a little ratle in the interior then a new tranny @ 300 miles(yes some break that fast) Hope Nissan keeps up the good work. I will stick with nissan for a while now.
His father has an Avalon, its a great car also.

I don't see why we make a big deal out of it...every manufacturer has some vehicles that come out with mech probs. just cause there were 3 TLs in the shop doesn't mean there were 3 Maximas in another shop somewhere else...

You are right...the 98+ Accord V6's have transmission problems, and so do the Honda Odysseys with the 4spd auto. I have not heard problems with the TL's 5-spd auto, but anything can happen I guess.
But I wouldn't use these isolated cases as saying Nissan rules and Honda sucks. All cars have problems.

Also The problem is that tranny problem is not in car reviews. He would never buy one if he knew. When you start talking to people that when you find out.

My dad has 60k on his '99 TL and no tranny issues besides Honda's sorry programming of shift points.....but the fluid has actually been changed, the car maintained, and it ain't beat to death. That's why you have over 100k on your 4th gen with no probs.....you actually care for it......
Hon-duh guys in general aren't as ****-retentive as many of us here.......

Re: WHo said nissan is bad.
190hpKiLLa is absolutely right!
Go to NHTSA Site and see for yourself the amount of consumer complainst for Honda's as opposed to Nissans.
Accord has tons for transmissions... Maxima for the same year ( I looked at 1999 ) had two.
The biggest problem I could find with the Maxima was complaints about the airbags not deploying.
Item for item, from what I saw, Honda had more mechanical problems.

Well except for Consumers Reports, none of the car reviews factor in reliability. The Ford Focus gets rave reviews about how it has excellent handling (it does, outperformed the 2001 Sentra SE I drove at Edmunds Live), but it has also had more recalls than any other car in the short time it has been sold. But you never hear about these recalls in the mags.
The Accord transmission problem is well known within the Honda circle. Just like how us Maxima owners all know that we have interior rattles, hesitant starters, and weak AC.

nobody said Nissan is bad...
ever.. Nissan *service* can be really bad... that's what makes or breaks the ownership experience. Manufacturers cant really be faulted for most problems, it happens.. but how they deal with it is the problem. From what I understand, Honda isnt giving everyone the run around are they?

Nissan has a history of screwing customers for known defects:
VTC failure (the most glaring and should have been a class action lawsuit)
89 to 91 VG auto tranny failures
Just about any paint color used since '97
Fuel filler neck boot
These are just the ones I can think of........in my experiences and discussions with Hon-duh owners dealers are a bit more forthright about problems and usually offer/suggest having recall work done rather than take Nissan's Clintonesque attitude of "deny, deny, deny, deflect, deflect, deflect, attack the customer, attack the customer, attack the customer".........
The problem I have with Honda is their sales experience, which consist of some of the most arrogant condescending a$$holes on the planet, and they make Nissan and Toyota salesman look like angels.....
I guess each maker has their good and bad......

yea, and so do a good deal of 3rd gen Maximas
ofcourse that's after 80k miles + compared to virtually new accords/TLs
Just because Nissan's tranny "may" be better then Accords doesn't mean Nissan is better... the interior quality, squeaks, rattles, various ways they cut $$$ is disguisting. But Nissan doesn't make that bad of a car, 4th gens are a great bargain and a great car for the $$$. I've always heard of Hondas and Toyotas that last forever, my uncle had 4 maximas and was pleased with all of them, problem free and going 100k miles + each, with his 2nd gen going 200k + then it got stolen. Now he leased a Solara, which he says is a nice car as well. He likes it equally as much as the maxima.

While attending college in 1990-95 I had a 90 max that was completely abused the car was the road trip machine, beer wagon, etc. The car simply would not die. After two accidents, one farily severe and one minor the car was still chugging along. When I traded the beast in on my 95 max it had over 180,000 miles of trouble free operation. I drove the crap out of that car! And yes it was an automagic. I can also say good things for the 4th gen as well put over 135,000 miles on it w/out any problems. Raced it regularly in scca events for 5 years. Also an automagic. But my 2k max se was the first nissan I have ever had a problem with, tranny solenoids, tcm, rotors, radio. And I drove it easier than the previous two.
