bose 321: HELP (please read)

I am about to purchase the BOse 321 dvd/cd home system to play on a 34 inch sony t.v. it is retail for 1k and i think that is a good price range for me. i'm getting sick of the playstation2 playing the dvd's cause it sucks. it comes with 1 bass woofer and 2 small speakers. at the store, it sounds awsome but i don't know if it's worth the money.
also what is worth it these days? anybody buy a nice system at a decent price? if yes, which model, where and how much.

thanks

You can go nuts spending dough on a home theatre system. Having said that, you can get a very good system at $1000 - 1500. This will get you a high current amp/processor (Yamaha), a cheapo DVD player with optical out (less than $200) and 6 speakers (package , 5 small ones with a small sub) (PSB, Paradigm, etc), if you looked around, I'm pretty sure you can get it close to if not cheaper than the Bose system, and it will BLOW the Bose away!

IMHO, the Bose acoustimass system is over rated. They are OK for low to moderate listening levels in small rooms and are convenient all in one simplicity (if that's all you want), but fail miserably when pushed a bit and cost way too much for what you get. The sound is so-so.

You just can't, repeat CAN'T get full DTS and Digital 5.1 compliance from this system. Bose doesn't even spec out the power output and distortion ratings in their PDF.

Don't take my word for it alone though, check out owner's reviews at www.audioreview.com under Bose Acoustimass, then check out the reviews for good speakers, like Boston Acoustics VR950 as a comparison. Good luck!

DONT DO IT!!!!

I work an Circuit city here in So Cal. We sell the 321. Its an nice system for what it is.... But surround sound its NOT!!. Save some money and get the Onkyo LCS 905 home theater system. It comes with a Dolby Digital/DTS/ Pro Logic II. Also a 5 disk DVD,CD,Mp3 player and the sat sub system. I have this system at home and it Kicks ***. It sells for about 799 and goes on sale for about 759. You should look into it. Bose is 70% name. You dont have to the Onkyo but there are alot of things better than the Bose for 100's less. Hope this helps.
John.
