Got rid of my sagging trunk mat...

The whole thing took about 2 hours and it's very sturdy now.

The board it about 3/4" thick so the carpet is not as flush as it used to be. Can you tell?

You used 3/4" plywood? Wow, that isn't gonna sag. That's for sure! Did you use exterior grade plywood? CDX? BCX? What? Did you put some kind of finish or sealer on there? If you don't seal it, the plywood might warp. If you didn't use an exterior grade of plywood, if it ever gets wet, it may delaminate. Nice pics. It looks good.

Thanks! But to be honest I don't know what it is - we had it sitting in the garage so I made it work. It is not wood though, more like a thick piece of paper. There is no finish or sealer on there yet, but I am going to wrap it in carpeting and supports and use it alone as my trunk mat (maybe plexiglass over the spare well ). Whatever it is, it's very strong. I mean I can literally sit on it (135 lbs.) And the thing will bend but shows no signs of breaking. I am not worried about it getting wet though, I mean how often does your trunk get wet?

It might be alittle more difficult now to get to your spare now.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing, but maybe just enought to cover the spare tire part. Pretty much just half of the trunk.

how do you get to your spare without taking apart the enitre trunk Should have made a cut out for the spare tire maybe with a piano hinge to create an access panel.

My trunk can get wet during duck/goose season, with rain, decoys, soaked/muddy chest-waders and such. But if your trunk doesn't get wet, it won't be an issue. Good job. Time to do something with my trunk now...

Sprinty...

What did you use to wrap the trunk? The original carpet? Yours looks great, and you're actually the one I got the idea from (I've seen those pics before ).

I'm going to need to do something like that.. my trunk where the spare tire is is sagging too.. ill probably just replace the spare tire top with a piece of wood instead of doing the entire trunk.
