Best race ever with a 750 iL!!!
I just had my best race to date with the max. I was cruising at my usual 60 in a 45 on the "race track" in Montgomery (aka highway 80). I see what looks to be a 7 series BMW closing in rather fast and weaving through traffic behind me. Once traffic opens a bit, I pull over to the slow lane and slow to about 55mph to let him catchup. He just stays about 2 cars back in the left lane and rides with me to the upcoming light. Well a primer gray civic saw us weaving through traffic and pulls up behind me riding my ***. As we approach the intersection, another lane is added to make it a three lane road. I take the middle lane, the civic is on my left revving his coffee can, and the BMW turns out to be a 750iL with a 55-60 year old man driving. I knew that I was going to get a race out of one of them, so i started to brake torque. With my new cat-back, everyone wants a piece, so even the 750 starts to brake torque! Well, green light and the bimmer and I are dead even and the civic doesn't even try
I slowly pull on the BMW and end up only about a car and a half ahead by 120! I shut it down due to the fact cops are usually around this part of the highway and the speed limit drops from 45 to 40 and that's 80 over. At the next light, I roll down the window and give the guy a thumbs up and he waves back grinning. I have so much respect for that guy now. He took the loss very well and was just excited to get in a close race. Also, he was about 55-60 years old and driving a $95,000 car at 120 racing me! I hope to see that guy again and maybe race from a roll. I think he would take me from a roll because it is a V-12 and it weighs so much - it would definitely be close. Just a little story for you guys; I never post kill stories but this deserved mentioning.
Peace,
Daniel

When I first got my Max in '98 I was pretty immature and liked to try people off the line. I got smoked by a 750iL which made me wonder if the Maxima was really in the 6's stock. Back then I believed the brochure's 6.6, yeah right.

If I am not mistaken, there were two versions of the 750il - one with a 5.0 and one with a 5.6.
Obviously, the 5.0 was a slouch, but the 5.6 did 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds.
No surprise you beat, even with the high-end gearing of the autobahn bomber, but I'll still take the BMW any day.
