Lug nut mystery
#1
Yesterday when I got to work and got out of my car I noticed a lug nut on the ground right outside my driver door. I picked it up and noticed that not only was the same type as mine, but the same size.
So, I do a walk around....all my lugs on the driverside are there, passenger rear is ok, but the passenger front is missing one. So, I get my torque wrench out of the trunk and put it back on.
My question is this: How the hell did it get off? A few things that came into my head...
1. It fell off driving. Well, in that case I would think that it would have fell off going 80 on the highway on the way into work, not when I was backing into a parking space.
2. It fell off the day before when I started my car and left work. Doesn't really make sense.
3. I didn't put in on right. 80ft/lbs. Right?
4. Someone tried to jack my rims. This might make the most sense, the nut was right next to where the passenger front wheel was the day before, so if someone was trying to take my rims they would have put the nut on the ground right where I found it. BUT, I am in a corner office with floor to celling windows and my car is in my line of site when I am looking at my monitor...plus there are 3 other people with the same view of my car who would have seen it. The parking lot is well lit, and heavliy used.
Any ideas? This is going to drive me nuts ( bad pun ) until I get it figured out.

May be a squirrel thought it was one of his-->>
seriously though.. When I take my rims off for any reason and put them back on I have to tighten them up after ~60 miles or so for the next couple of weeks. After that they are ok... So have you taken your rims off lately??

#4 sounds the most likely. sounds like they may have been interrupted in the well used parking area and fled empty handed. Do you have a good set of wheel locks ? If not I would get a set and quick its just cheap insurance.

You would have to jack the car up a bit and there is NO way that he wouldn't be spotted here. I wasn't even here past 5 last night.
You would think it would be easier to just steal the car....

Oh that was aimed at me??
I've taken care of the 16.0 time. I forgot to adjust something so I should be back to normal as far as 17" rims go..

Well, when I go to the gym I usually take my time and run an 8 minute mile...so I would figure that means I run a 2 minute quarter
