I was looking at a honda forum and there was a maxima question

This guy wanted to know if his 97 5spd prelude would beat a 97 Auto max. It was funny because all of the honda guys were like the max will smoke the lude hard, those maximas are fast. It was pretty damn funny. Just thought id post since i just saw this. Most have you have probably seen the same thing over there. Take Care

Funny thing is, the 97 prelude would smoke the max if both were stock

Ummm, depends on what model prelude it is. Throw a 5spd Maxima into the equation, and it will be a good race against the 5spd vtec prelude.

I dont know much about the prelude I just think its funny that they have that much respect for the Maxima, its just nice to see all different kinds of forums for cars. The honda owners look up to us and say that we are in a whole other class, then in the Mustang forum they all act like we are hondas even though we own all their V6's. Another thing I saw in that forum was a guy bragging about his dyno of his 99 Accord with a jackson sc, he said he dynoed at a whopping 147hp and everyone was like wow that is great I bet your car is fast as hell. Makes me feel better about owning a max. however this is not new info, lol. im just bored and thought id share. Take Care

He probably meant he got an additional 147HP they come with stock 155HP but if he dynoed at 147 something is wrong with those numbers . Maybe he meant torque, anyways unless they come V6 stick I would not get one thats the reason I own a Max also Hondas get stolen too often since everyone owns one.

Actually the guys at www.stangnet.com are pretty cool, do a search for 'maxima' and you'll find nothing but respect, except for one guy.

All 1997 preludes are VTEC.

They come with 155hp at the crank so maybe that was 147hp at the wheels? That would make sense - but its still less power than a stock Max!

My .02 since I had a 97 Prelude 5spd and have a 2K Max SE 5spd w/mods. W/O correcting for altitude and conditions my Max ran 15.5 @ 90.0 and my unmodded 'lude ran 15.8 @ 89.3 with freakin horrible wheelhop! Damn traction compound!!!

I owned a 97 5-speed Prelude for 2 years. I raced a new (must've been a 97) 5-speed Max when I had it and it was pretty even, but I pulled away after I hit second gear. We never got up to speeds because of traffic so we shut it down. The Preludes are pretty darn fast off the line, but at highway speeds...the Max will walk away from them very quickly...auto or 5-speed.

Yes, all 97 and newer Preludes are VTEC. There is a regular Lude and a type SH with their special differntial that pulls faster with the the outside wheel during a turn that helps cornering.

Are you talking about preludeonline.com? They have mad respect because Warren and I had Preludes while there but now have Maxs! Good group of guys.

Well, my 2K2 eats up Preludes now, but my Prelude killed most Maximas. Its a two way street.

I don't know how close the Type SH is to the vtec, but when I was at the track and ended up racing him all but one time I raced, the best time that I saw him get was a 15.8x, and a couple 16.xx. I tseemed like he was a faily condsistent driver, but I think that his 18's were killing him some on traction.

They were saying that it and the 2K2 altima were weak and ugly. Who knows, and to the other person who asked about what site it was it was www.superhonda.com

We all have to dream about something. They dream of beating a 2k2. Pathetic ricers. And they call us rice. honda=rice that is first that comes to mind.

Well if you dont launch the Prelude in VTEC (above 5K rpm), you might as well count the 1/4 in minutes. Most people dont for lack of knowledge or 'fear' that they may 'hurt' the car. Suphonda.org is a group of ricers.......go to preludeonline.com for a good prelude site.

Maybe from 0-60, but 2K2 Max's top over 155mph. 96-98 4.6L GT's barely top 140mph. 1/4mi. is no contest either. Even Modded 4.6L GT's don't hit low 14s very often. That's it, a 5spd. V-Sux Mustang is next on my list of targets, second only to Civics of course. I do like Preludes, they're gorgeous cars, especially with the OEM body kit. I have much respect for the ATTS on SH Quaaludes. I have always wanted to drive a high-RPM (>7000RPM redline) VTEC car.

Problem with ATTS is you have to totally disassemble it to do a simple clutch replacement. You're looking at $1500 in labor there. They are good looking cars though.

That and the fact that they only last up to about 250hp. Although I have heard of a turbo kit making 260-280hp with the ATTS still functiong. I want one to play with. I wonder how much NOS they can handle?

There is a misconception that the SH is faster for some reason. It is not. It has the exact same engine, but just ATTS (quasi-LSD). It adds about 80lbs so SH Ludes are usually a few hundreths of a sec slower, but no biggie. When my Prelude was stock I got a best of 15 flat out of it. Ofcourse my Maxima is almost a fulls sec fasther

Oh yeah, auto Ludes (even the latest with VTEC) are SLOW. Low 16s AT BEST stock. Usually mid to high 16s though from most people.

People just dont realize... even after we explain it 4 times in the same thread they still think the SH is faster than the base...

The torqueless Honda's really bite with autos. At least the VQ have nice torque bands
