Ian-- if you get the VI from rockie, you better get the lower half.. what? because oval doesnt line up with round. dohh.
I'm confused, Cheston.

If I get the Manifold, and it is round on the bottom, then it still won't line up with the Engine Block, RIGHT?

So either way I'm screwed. Or am I? What to I need to ask rocky to get this going again?

By the way, I asked him about the JDM Spec, and he said "Yes, all the ones I am getting are off the japanese Imports, the NZ Cars don't have VI"

So at least we got that confirmed.

It's still gonna cost less than the ME one if we do it this way, and it is doable.

Now if we were to switch the lower manifold to the round ones, wouldn't that restrict airflow giving us less power since the ovals allow for more air to pass?

well, the 65 for the lower intake is really nothing huge.

but, if its for a 3.0 like he says .. hmmm.. we'll need to dyno that sucker to make sure it produces similar gains, with the circular lower manifold.

Will the gains with the smaller circular opening be as good as the collector with the oval openings? Be sure to get the gasket as well.

Guys, from the pictures I've seen, the overall cross-sectional area of the round runners is much smaller than the oval runners. This implies the round-runner manifold is intended for a smaller engine than the 3.0 (2.0? 2.5?).

The round-runner variable manifold will definitely result in a power loss over the oval-runner variable manifold. In fact, there may even be a power loss over the US non-variable manifold. I would not even think about trying out that unit.

just thinking out loud (out typing??) here, but does anyone have any connections with the Nissan USA, the Japanese factory or maybe NISMO?? seems to me if enough interest was generated, these intakes/collectors could be made available to us (US). of course, we still need to see how they will work on a NA VQ.

I'm still looking for it.

Well, because of the New Zealand bomb I trying the Middle East to see if I can find it. I'm going to try to also get the part number for the piece and see if my local dealer can get it. But I will keep everyone posted on my search.

This sucks. Oh, well you lose some and you win some.

The guy in NZ swears up and down that these pipes are the pipes from a 3.0L in New Zealand (JDM Spec)

1)Why would Nissan go through all the trouble to design different pipes for the same engine in two parts of the world that supposedly work the same?

2)The ME 2.5L Controller has 35U stamped on it. So does the NZ "3.0L", from what the source said.

This makes no sense.

I have sent an E-Mail of my concerns to the NZ source. He is going to be sending me measurments of the pipes. Does anyone here have the runner measurements from a US version to compare with?

Thanks,
IanS

Hi, after sleeping on it I tend to agree with you.
I am asking around with different suppliers to see if there is a 38U Collector in the country.

I will let you know if I can find one.

From what I've heard, Cheston, the UK version is not even close to usable.

Rocky's still looking...I'm hoping against hope.

Intial research into Japan was a no go. If you can confirm it's indeed offered in Japan models, let me know

Yep, I'm with you I've spent like my whole morning searching and sending things to the ME to see what is going on, so I've emailed like 20-30 different people over there. But, I contacted UK also no word back yet but there is also a big time difference!!! Hopefully I will have some luck but I'll keep you guys posted. But I think Ian is right. UK I think also has the 2.5L engine that NZ had. But, it doesn't hurt to ask.

All the ones in New Zealand are from Japanese cars exported to NZ.

Stock in NZ, they don't have the VI.

So if Japan doesn't have any for the 3.0L, NZ Definately doesn't.

Sound like this may be an ONLY ME thing.

This sucks. I was so psyched.

Interesting.

In Nissan's annual reports (1996-1999), they mention that the Middle East and Africa are one sales region.

I'm going to be checking into South Africa next.

I've got the number for Nissan South Africa....I'll try giving them a call when I can.

Or if someone else wants to flip the bill for a call to SA, or can get the call free, the number is 11783-44074408

Ask for the "VQ30DE Variable induction Controller" Ask for the part number.

Also ask for numbers to dealerships in SA. Then call the dealerships and get a price, and then ask for numbers to junk yards they deal with.

If noone else has done this by later tonight, I will.

South Africa is GMT, which means they are +8 hours to Seattle.

So I'm going to have to call early in the morning to catch anyone.

Anyone know ifthis intake is in Saudi Arabia?

I'm sure it is.

I've got a butload of phone numbers for Auto Parts in Saudi.

Apparently, there's a huge market for Engine Parts there.

The UK 4th gen maxima had 2 available engines, the VQ20DE and the VQ30DE. The VQ30DE only came with an automatic. The performance specs of the UK VQ30DE are kinda slow, but that could be for 2 reasons;

a) It's an automatic only
b) Like the 5th gen, the VQ30DE with VI may produce peak power past the shift point of the auto, further hampering performance.

I've spent the last two nights on the internet searching for dealerships/parts distributors/etc. trying to find someone with some info. I'm e-mailing anybody that might have even the slightest bit of help. We gotta just keep plugging away. Something will happen. It has to.

Has anyone tried Russia or any of the former USSR countries? I read the specs on their VQ30 and it is listed at 220hp. Perhaps they have the 38U as well?
