Are the 2K2 6spds governed/speed limited?

I was doing some 'exploratory abandoned highway' driving last night and I decided to probe the limits of my car. It pulled good until about 5200rpms in 5th gear at around an indicated 142mph and then it just seemed to stop pulling. This would indicate that it is governed, is this true? I thought I heard someone say that the 2K2's top out at over 155mph.

You need to consider the wind. It's estimated that the car should be able to achieve a airspeed velocity of greater than 149MPH. It is possible that the top speed may occur in 6th gear. If you were driving into a headwind then an indicated 142 may be your limit. Most likely you were going slower than 142 due to speedo error. I've measured my speedo to be 1km/hr slow at 120km/hr (meaning I'm going 121 and the speedo says 120).

Of course some people are going to jump all over this thread and point out how the 2K2 sucks cause it's no faster (or even slower) than the other gens, but I don't think that's the case. 2K2THEMAX had his automatic 02 up to 155 (speedo indicated) and a 147 GPS meaured.

You did not hit a limiter. The engine cuts out when you hit a limiter. It's very similar to hitting the fuel cut when over revving the engine. You ran into nature's limiter. You did not have any more power to overcome the air resistance of your vehicle.

I don’t know how Nissan's are (this is my first ) but in my old Grand Am, when you hit the speed limiter, you knew it. When I hit 115 my Grand Am, I thought I broke something because it felt like I hit a brick wall and had a clunk sound. I believe it cuts fuel for sec or something like that. After I slowed down, it ran fine and ran fine for another couple years.

I am guessing you were somewhere near the top end of the max.

Yeah, I guess it was just wind resistance. I didn't have it floored in 5th all day so I guess it just took a little while. It was pretty windy last night that I think about it. I'll save another run for a perfectly sunny day with no wind. Thanks.

Well, my 5th gen oWnZ YouZ 4tH GEnS!!!!!
