Supercharged Maxima - LONG ROADTRIP

On my last road trip to San Francisco from Los Angeles I fried my motor as most of you know. I think I may be leaving on a road trip to a much furthur Austin, Texas at the end of the week. I'm very afraid that something similar is going to happen again because last time I wasn't really running the car hard and the temp sensor didn't rise.

I just ordered stage 6 ngk platinum plugs to put in. What else can I do to ensure everything will work perfectly? Do you think a real water temp sensor and an exhaust temp sensor would help?

That's not going to save the motor.

Yeah synthetic is definately in.

I don't agree with the octane booster, boosted octanes raise internal temperatures.

Higher octane should increase combustion temperatures normally... just added insurance against predetonation under load (boost)...

Get an EGT and I'll help you put it in one of these weekends.

I'm going SOON!!!

Yeah well I plan on staying out of boost the entire time. I've noticed with my normal every-day driving, and sometimes aggressive driving that I rarely if ever go into boost. It takes nearly flooring it for me to boost.

Well definitely you have to save the car on a trip like that. What I mean is drive the car easy on the way out. Try not to take it over 75 or maybe even 80. On long trips, I try to be as easy as I can on the motor because of the heat buildup and the run time. I also don't accelerate hard when taking off from toll booths or onramps. Just be easy on her for a few ours and keep checking for unexplained noises and leaks around the SC.

Maybe make a stop or two along the way to let it cool down as well. Like just pop the hood (not all the way open but enough to let some extra heat out) while getting a drink or something. It will let it cool down some and make the stress a bit less.

I'm removing my right fog light so the CAI gets even colder air, and you guys will laugh, but I'm honestly just going to remove my front right headlight as well. THat will force outside air right onto the S/C and part of the intake pipe.

Just take it easy on the trip. I drove from Upstate New York to New Orleans non stop, 22hrs only stopping for gas etc...

MardisGras were you boosting, what PSI?

I'm actually debating installing a shortram intake right after the MAF and leaving the main SC pipe in the trunk and hooking it back up when I'm in town. I won't push the car so the vaccuum on the FMU shouldn't flood the engine. The S/c will just be blowing air open into the bay not connected to the intake.

No boost at steady cruising speeds. I get vaccum at cruising speed ~70-80mph.

I have no boost like every, but the problem is the supercharger regardless of boost or not makes the intake tempature significantly hotter.

My car is having a misfire problem, I think I blew a coil pack, tomorrow I'll know if I'm going (if I can fix the car)

Well if your going 90, your RPM's will be around 3g's meaning bad fuel economy.

90 mph in a 5 speed is closer to 3750 or 4000 RPMS. 3000 RPM's is just over 70 mph.

The other night I hooked up the OBDII lap top thingamajiggy and drove aroung monitoring intake temps, timing and RPM's. I was getting 140f while cruising at 60mph. When I nailed it I got ~130, I was like WTF that aint right! Then I rememberd the water injection, LOL.

Hey MardisGras, what's up with your sig? How'd you get a 44hp and 65lb-ft. power increase, a 3mph trap speed increase and no change whatsoever in your 60' and ET's? WTF? Did you break 'em loose halfway down the track or what?

the NOS run was my second run, about 1 hour later! I forgot that I had to shift it lower for the nitrous power band, it cuts off at 5600. As far as 60', 2.05 is all those little 205/50-15 BFG gForce DR's has in them. Time for slicks!
