I get all the stuff in the mail since I used to have a Volvo.

For example, S60 has a $1550 package that includes ECU, sport exhaust, panel filter and engine mounts. Yield? 33-40 HP. Not bad for the price and bolt-on. Not really sure though if the FWD could handle the 280-287 hp that results though.

It's a shame there are no legit Nissan tuners out there, meaning some aftermarket shop run by enthusiasts with good service and support, and prices. Maybe that's just not in Nissan's fabric or something.

That story aboout the Metal Masters being repackaged and sold for $30 more really took the cake. That place tried to sell on this forum but when the customer service issues came up they sure hibernated like the Labatt's bear!

I'm no Volvo expert, so I don't know that those HP increase claims (with those mods) are even true, but I wouldn't just assume they are. That beening said, some engines are underbuild and you can get big power increases with some simple mods. So its not really that the volvo tuners are better, its what there working with. For example, if a manufacuter already uses a good flowing exhaust from the factory an aftermarket one will show little gain. Likly those parts are bigger constrictions on the Volvo than they are on the Max.

That ECU just raises the boost on the turbo. An ECU can be bought for as little as $400-1000. The chips just raise the boost to extract more hp out of the engine. I have seen chips for $500 that will yield 50-crank-hp or more.
