My Emblem Project

I have hated my gold emblems for so long now. I finally got fed up and decided to spend the money to go back to silver ones. I ordered the silver ones, and I have them, and when I went to pick them up, I remembered that my trunk key hole was gold also. I will have to order that and it is like $56. I put the chrome emblem on the front and shaved the rear ones for now. It took me forever shaving the rear ones, and I can still tell where they were. I do not see how you guys do it so clean. I really like the chrome emblems though, they look alot better.

Whats up

I had gold emblems and pin striping on my max also. I removed the pin striping and replaced everything with chrome...but my intennae and key hole are still gold. But the gold on my keyhole is so faded it's down to the chrome, and the intennae I just don't think it's that big a deal.

When I shaved my M A X I M A, it also wasn't clean at all. It still had an imprint of "maxima" in it like you. But don't worry becuase after alot of washing it'll come off, or if your putting a new MAXIMA on, just think of it as guidlines as where to put the new lettering.

See, I never use my keyhole, so it is still pretty gold. I may just sand it and say screw it beacuase I'll probably get a new car in a few weeks or something.

That $56 is just for the keyhole in the trunk, right? How much was it for the chrome emblems? (i'm also stuck with gold..no more pinstripes though )

Why didn't you try and get emblems from a junk yard. I'm sure they had tons of them and you could have saved a couple dimes.

I tried, and I could not find any junk yards around here with them.

It is $56 for the whole trunk keyhole mechanism. I had to pay $80 with shipping and tax for the front hamburger emblem, back hamburger emblem, and MAXIMA emblem. But I was really fed up the gold plated ones. The silver ones look really AWESOME compared to the gold ones.

You're gonna sand the keyhole, then sell the thing...Um, if I was buying a car, i wouldn't want a sanded down keyhole, I would probably prefer purple..

also, are you getting another maxima, or getting out of the cool club

I second this. Use some mild abrasive cleaner or goo-off if you want, just be careful....it'll come off eventually.

My younger cousin is getting my car as is. I am looking at getting a G35 possibly, but not sure yet.

Re: My Emblem Project

I used a bit of bug and tar remover to help get rid of the tape residue. I could still see a bit of the marking, so I used some Meguiar's swirl remover. It worked pretty good for the Nissan emblem. I didn't work as hard on the "Maxima", which was good because my beige car looked naked with no chrome in back, so I put the Maxima back on in the same place, used the paint marks to line it up.

why didn't you try getting the new 2k2 emblems? They look really good IMO. The one on the Xterra is larger but I heard from Matt @ tustinnissan that it was the only flat one...the other ones all have a slight curve to it.

that's because its so cold outside. warm the glue up a little somehow or wait until its warmer. when i shaved my old car it took me forever to get it half done then i realized the problem. i set up a heater behind me and it was much easier.

also, the antenna...does the gold part come off or does the whole thing need to be removed to change it? i might just paint that or something.

any ideas on the lock??

well to shave the trunk key hole and the antenna iss not DIY - but for the emblems... all you need is some floss and a heat gun. SHA BAM! heat those suckers up (or do it in the middle of June or July) and slip the floss around it
