Frankencar and Monster Flow Team up

i spoke to Ben at monster flow filters last week and this morning he shipped out 50 filters to me. that's right, frankencar intakes will soon come with monster flow fitlers. I will keep a COUPLE k/n's on hand for special requests only, but i will be using 99% monster flow filters. i hope to re-dyno with this fitler. I feel these will work much better and not have the oiling questions that the k/n's have.

But K&N is tried and true, the most popular and trusted filter...why are you switching to foam?

Do you really think it'll make a difference? I am really curious about this, but I have always heard foam is bad. And how are these filters any different from Weapon-R's filters?

there's actually many research studies out there that have proven K&N truely isn't the best. I'm not sure about the foam though...i have to dig those sites up again.......

I've heard that the foam filters doesn't stand up well to the elements, but since his isn't a real "exposed" CAI then it'll be okay I guess...

I like foam filters. I have the Weapon R. I replaced it after a year, but the old one still looks good enough to use again. The Amsoil drop-in replacement (stock airbox) is dual foam elements. They claim foam works better by being more complex, and Amsoil certainly has a good rep. I'm sure if they thought oiled paper worked better, they'd sell that instead. This isn't to knock K&N - I've used that on this and other vehicles. I just think foam gets a bad rap it doesn't deserve.

instead of just dynoing the two filters, is there a way to do a test to see how well the Monster and K&N filter against eachother?

Yes ... and I've already posted about this, but here it is again. DON'T click "here" when the new window appears ... just wait a second for the page to load, and then read the article which has information about testing air filters for filtration as well as flow. Perhaps Monster could do a similar comparison test:

Amsoil air filter testing article

I don't expect many people will trade in their cone intakes for an Amsoil stock box drop in (I'm not ready to either). I hope this information is useful, though, in eventually proving or disproving the effectiveness of foam filters vs. paper.

With all the talk lately of overoiled k/n's i can't trust them anymore. the monster flows are supposed to be non damaging to maf sensors and supposed to flow slightly better and be smoother. i hope to dyno again, i don't expect a increase but i hope to smooth out my dyno. There has to be some reason place racing switched over to them.
