2k2 Owners....

I was wondering if any of you have modded your car at all yet? I might be buying a new 2k2 Max, and I was also wondering the +/- of having one. Thanks.

The '-' about buying a new car is that you have to wait a bit before products get developed. I don't think that there's too many mods yet for the car.

So I take it you haven't met dmbmaxima88 or emax yet? Check out www.FrankenCar.com for intake info.

I'm a newbie, I'm not familiar with them. Did my post confuse you? Or did you not get the jist of it.

I was talking to 97GreenMax... I typed my post while you were typing yours and you finished first. Never got to see yours.

Re: 2k2 Owners....

Actually a lot of people have already modded their 2k2's. Most of the parts available to the 2000 Maxima will fit on the 2k2 except for the Stillen Supercharger.

As for the negatives of buying one... depends really. The only "-" i saw was:

1) Mediocre gas mileage (then again i used to drive a Civic! but for the power i get on the VQ it's well worth it)

Yeah... that's about it

I get about 2 less MPG in my 02 compared to my 95 max, I get about 1 less MPG compared to my 5spd 98 I30.

Take a look at my sig for the collection of mods that I have done. There will be more to come shortly I don't think theres any negatives with my 02 max compared to my 4th gen's, the must negative would have to be the premium I paid for a brand new car.

Torque stear is definatly noticable but I have been driving high powered FWD cars for quite some time now, you will get use to it and your driving/racing style will adapt.

...and because Nissan seems to be making the VQ35DE the "GM 3800" of Nissan (and I don't blame them, the VQ rocks!), it will make aftermarket companies eyes glow wide when they realize they will be able to cover so many Nissan products just for developing for this one engine, and only two layouts (FF or FR).

VQ35DE = Altima 3.5SE (FF), Maxima (FF), Pathfinder, QX4, I35, G35, 350Z, etc.

Common engine designs between various cars is a good thing when trying to get aftermarket companies to build you mods.

My 2k2 SE feels stable on the freeway at high speeds. Maybe it's the difference in the suspension between a GLE and the SE, but I had it up to 120MPH and it didn't seem all floaty like some people described. I've driving some crappy cars. I know floaty.

I've had mine at 120+ and it seemed pretty stable, but around 80 to 90 mph on the interstate with some windy it was very darty. I'm changing the suspension soon as well as tires, so we'll see if that helps.

As far as 3.5VQ mods.........what exactly are you looking for? I called Stillen last week and they told me that a header/Y-pipe combo was about two months away that would give at LEAST 25whp. Plus, there are the upcoming 350Z parts that I'll be swapping too (cams, pistons, ECU) as soon as they become available.

How exactly does that work? I thought the 350Z shares the same exact engine as the Max and that the only difference is in the intake and exhaust tuning.

The Max already shows good numbers (270 at the crank) with just an intake and exhaust mod. Similar numbers as the Z and G35.

I would assume the cams are more aggressive on the Z, the pistons made for higher compression and other subtle diffences. Also, I assume the timing and other thing in the ECU would be more agressive as well. I certainly hope the Z's power doesn't drop off like a rock after 6K like ours does.

Hopefully since they want the release to go well they will give it as much pwer as high as they can get it.

I have a hypothesis about the "quirkiness" at high speeds. It's tire pressure. I used to run 35 fornt/30 rear and used to experience that quirkiness at speed, and with even slight crosswinds. Now I run 40 front/35 rear and since then the "quirkiness" has almost all gone away, even when there is crosswinds. I am really hoping that when I upgrade tires (when I get my car back someday) that it will always dissapear. Does anyone have any input on this "hypothesis"?
