Put the hurt on a GS-T tonight...
As I was coming back from my softball game tonight I see a Eclipse GS-T drive by. It caught my attention because of the "clear everything" treatment and the big angle fitted exhaust. I guess the guy saw me looking and turned around. As I'm rolling away from the next light he slows down then takes off and the passenger just kinda laughs and says "maxima.org?". He slows down and hits another light. I pull up, look over and smirk, and throw a short rev. He revs back. The light goes green and I blow my launch and spin like a *****. Next thing I know is I'm over a car behind. As bang 2nd I'm making up ground. As I wrap out 2nd I'm right next to him and then I bang 3rd and start pulling away. By 75mph I'm ahead and have proved my point.
As I slow down he comes up again and want to run from 45mph. We do it again and it is quickly over. Instantly I'm walking him. He slows down and slows down and then pulls off.

That guys eclipse is all show no go it seems.
my cousin had a 97 gst eclipse, bigger turbo, intercooler, turbotimers, bigger ignition stuff, i dunno, just about everything. his car hit 12s.. that thing was pretty fast.
still... the 540 he drives now is much nicer. potholes dont kill the ride.
if u want a link to his eclipse (sold) i have the magazine it was in scanned (horribly) on some webpage..

That's a nice bonafide kill...
I didn't think a Max could stick it out with an Tubroed Eclipse. Especiallay since GS-T's do 6.6 to 60mph; GSX is a different matter...will get you off the line with its AWD nad 6.4 to 60mph.
I bet he's wishing he BPU'd instead of going for show.
Congrats on the kill

Congrats on the kill
Thanks guys...
I've raced GSXs before and they do get me off the line, but AWD really works against them after 60mph. From my experience they are significantly slower than the GS-T on the topend. Maybe the GS-T driver was a bit slow at shifting or something and that's why I came back from behind by 70mph. If he had a bigger turbo and all the toys, I would have been toast in a major way. I would bet he had a muffler and maybe an intake. I didn't see any extra guages and such. It was a fun race, and I started laughing hard when he decided to tail me and then turn off after beating him twice. He probably thought I was SC'd.

yeah, the gst's are fast though....
I had a 93 gst and it was fast, but not nearly the nice ride on my max.....i have only raced one gst, a 96.....it was a good run, they kept up pretty well until about 50 when i started pulling hard on them......nice looking little cars though.
what is the top speed on those things?
I had a runin with a GST Last week, getting on the highway, he was infront of me and we both gunned it. puff of black smoke came out of his exaust at every shift. I go to a 90 right next to him and then I started to pass him, at 120 he was 5 cars behind me. was wondering if they have a limiter or something.

According to the above, it looks like the GSX in quicker in the 1/4...at least in '95.

A stock GSX of either generation, the Max can take out on the highway.
a stock GST of the 1st gen, the Max should lose (unless the turbo is worn).
A stock GST of the 2nd gen is a toss up, but at higher speeds the Max should have the advantage. The reason for this is because the stock turbo is too small and it chokes at higher rpm.
As for the 1/4 mile times posted, they're useless in this instance because the races start from a roll. Also, the times are deceiving because they don't include the trap speeds. While the GSX is quicker to the 1/4 mile, it's going thru the traps at a slower speed. Stock GSX's will cross the line at 88 to 89 mph. (once in a while, you'll get an unusually strong motor that is quite a bit faster) Stock GST's will cross the line at 91 to 94 mph (depending upon generation)
As for the puff of black smoke you see b/t shifts, this is a tell-tale sign that they are at WOT and are trying to race.

Yeah I chased him til 90 and then passed him I'm sure he was trying to race. but if I had known he was gonna do that I would've taken off in first. I was already in 2nd when I saw he wanted to play. but O well Old news now
