Blueish/yellowish dis-coloration from polishing/waxing my hood.

Blueish/yellowish dis-coloration from polishing/waxing my hood.
So I guess this is what I get for taking care of my Minima
I forget if I had waxed and polished it, but i'm positive I polished it. I used TurtleWax brand car polish. It came black w/a black crayon to take care of scratches and chips...of course it didn't work.
I decided to polish my hood with the black polish becuase it acts as a wax that blends with all black shades of cars. Well, all looked well until about 30 minutes later I noticed a light blueish discoloration coming from all the swirl marks on my hood. It was like 4pm so it wasn't really hot outside and I "waxed on, waxed off"...I didn't really think about it and thought it was the polisher doing it's thang and that it would dissappear. Well it didn't. I've noticed it has a slight yellowish shade to it when It sits in the sun.
From a distance the car looks nice and shiny but up close you can see the discoloration.
I just got done washing my hood about 5 times and it still is there.
My friends think it's gonna be there for life since it sank into the paint as wax or polish does.
Anyone been in my situation before? I need some help..

Turtle wax sucks ***, get either mothers or 3m stuff.
As for the discoloration try this. Take some dishwasher soap(dawn) and wash the aeras affected by the polish, may have to do it 2 times to get it off.

I hate those polish with color in them. They just rub off. The correct way to get rid of swirl marks is by using a mild polish. The rest you can cover up by using a glaze. You then follow up with wax. Wax will reduce the chance for more swirl marks. Oh...when washing your car, go either horizontal or vertical. You can see circles at all angles. Lines you can only see when you standing at the right angle.

Guys-
I did exactly that...I used Dawn dishwashing soap (as I always do when I was my car) and scrubed the hell outta my hood. Spent like 10 minutes scrubbing and washing off, scrubbing and washing off.
I'm afraid if I try to polish it anymore, it will turn green
If I keep washing and washing it, and waxing it, will the discoloration eventually wash/buff away?

Only use dishwashing soap when you're trying to strip every bit of wax and polish off the car. If you do it every time you wash your car, you can damage the paint.
Although in your current case, yes, use dishwashing soap, if you're sure that's not what caused your problem in the first place.

On all my families recent cars ('95 GXE Maxima, Ford Explorer, Caravan, my max) we've used dawn dishwashing soap. NEVER have we had a problem with fading/stripping paint, and the wax seems to stay good.
I have always heard dishwashing soap is WHAT your supposed to use
1MAX2NV, any comments?

That's exactly right Craig, you should NOT use it on a regular basis but once or twice a year when you plan to re-wax the whole car. The discoloration is probably due to the fact that you are polishing the actual paint (or clearcoat if you still have one ). Polish should be used with wax, and you have clearly stripped it from using dish-washing liquid. But don't worry, you'll be okay. :kis: Go out and but some Meguairs Rich Suds car wash tomorrow and re-wash the whole car. Then wax followed by polish - I'm sure it will take you all day but you should do it ASAP so the paint is not affected. Polish very well and use 1MAX2NV's method of washing the car, it will leave you with less swirl marks. After it's done I'm sure you will be satisfied as it will leave you with a shine like never before.

And don't worry the Max's paint should be fine, just clean her up tomorrow and remember never to do it again.
