Muffler recommendations?
Hi
Recently, I put on a custom catback with a Magnaflow race series 3" muffler. I find that this muffler is WAAAAYY too loud for me on street driving.
I am looking for a good muffler (preferably tunable but not necessarily). It should have a nice sound or growl, but NOT loud. I prefer 2.5" muffler at least.
Top of my list are Thermal, Greddy and a Street Magnaflow with baffles. I think ARO has a baffled muffler too. Don't hear much about Borla stuff. Are there any specific recommendations for specific models for the brands listed or other brands? I plan to keep my race muffler for the drag strip and a nice quiet one for street driving....with a nice growl would be good.
Ideally it should not be loud until 3500 rpm. That's just so I can pull into my garage without waking up the whole neighbourhood ... why do I care? Because there are three cops in my neighbourhood ... all within 200 yards of where I live!

Flowmasters V-Force, the kind that came off the camaro's. It's 2.2" slimmer than stock. (Cannot be seen).
I don't know what it'll do for your setup but for my dual setup I believe it's made me one of the deepest meanest sounding maxima's out there.
...when you combine things like not only idling but cruising and flooring it....obviously 4" straight pipes will sound the meanest but they will scream rice when you gun it.

I'd suggest you consider getting a 5th Gen muffler. I've seen guys on the 5th Gen forum selling them for as little as $50.00.
I've got a 2.5" catback with a Cattman Y-pipe, an RT Cat, and a Magnaflow resonator. I used to have a Magnaflow muffler as well but it was just too freaking loud! So I put my OEM rear section back on and my car sounds great! It purrs up to about 3500 rpm and then growls after that.
If that doesn't appeal to you, check out the Dynomax Super Turbo:

well i don't know who makes the v-force but it isn't flowmaster craig!!!! though i have heard alot of good about it as well...
for myself i am getting a y-pipe, custom catback, with a flowmaster 40 series (REALLY REALLY DEEP!!!) it won't be the quietest but will make people wonder if i really have a VQ or some frankencar (no pun intended)

Either way it sounds really mean and has the same design as flowmasters, and was made as aftermarket for muscle cars such as V8 camaro's so you know it was made to be mean.
The 40 series is also gonna be very deep...good choice..
Nigel,
You may want to consider a Hooker muffler. It's what I'm using for my setup. Here's a link with some information on them:

BTW, they're not expensive (~$70), and are very well build, but most of all they're quiet.
