oil filter booster

i cant remember what magazine i saw this ad in, but its basically a rectangular magnet that you put over your oil filter, and its supposed to keep metal elements that could pass thru the filter and damage the engine in one spot. ill find the ad, i htink it was in superstreet. do you think this would be worth getting?

I've never heard of anything like this before, but it looks interesting. You should test your oil after using the magnet to see if/how well it works. Where's Bill on this one

That dates back many decades, just put a magnet on the end of the filter to catch magnetic particles. It does work, any magnet that will stay there will do (I wouldn't spend much!) There are also magnetic drain plugs for engine and transmission, they work too, some cars even came with them stock. Of course, they all do nothing about brass, aluminum, chromium, bronze particles.

I don't have the tools to "slice open" the filters, but I can ship someone my filter from my second oil change (no magnet used) and my filter from my recent change (3,000mi from now). If someone has a digicam & the right tools to splice open, we could see the results.

Anyone interested?...

Actually I meant send in an oil sample before the magnet and after the magnet to Blackstone Labs. Then we would have some extra info in the Oil Analysis spreadsheet The test would show how much the magnet improved the ppm of different metals.

Yeah, I'm with you Matt. I'd like to see some results too. Looks interesting. I'm gonna try to do a cheap mod if ANY magnet will do. Peace.
