In performance yes, in build quality no. It can't compare to Acura/Lexus/Infiniti, but for the price, the Maxima is one hell of a nice car that I sometimes miss shifting through its gears.

It seems our engines are similer to domestic power engines in the fact that both seemed to be tuned for low end muscle, while the honda's seem to be tuned for higher end *****, right?

Russ, would you agree that the VQ series engine gives the Maxima more low end power and torque versus the CL and TL type s? I've read the figures on them and they have around 230lb-ft of torque right? Not bad for a honda..

I know it's magazine numbers, but Motortrend ran(both AUTO):
CL-S 0-60 = 6.4sec., 1/4 = 14.8sec.@96.5mph
TL-S 0-60 = 6.3sec., 1/4 = 14.7sec.@97.6mph
Misprint? Different drivers? The CL-S was tested in 1/01 and the TL-S was 5/01.
I do agree that the interior of the Acura is nicer. Can't agree with the saying that the build quality is better. The Maxima was built in Japan, and comparing the car to the Altima and TLS/CLS one would find less problems per batch of cars. We hear of rattles and body imperfections, and in general that is more likely high in the domestically built cars.

Sounds fine to me.
As in... well within margin of error for performance testing! 0.1 or 0.2 sec (or a mph or two) either way is well within statistical error for this testing.
The TL-S and CL-S are so evenly matched, I'd expect one to be faster sometimes, the other to be faster sometimes (or even mosrt of the time, but a TL-S testing a smidgen faster than a CL-S does not surprise me at all)
Just like not every 2k2 Maxima 6-spd will run 14.5, some will be faster, some slower... plus the weather, track conditions, etc. all affect performance.
My Boss has a CL-S and every time he loooks at my car, he hates his Honda, I mean Acura more. I have 4 doors, and Im faster, and as soon as Stillen makes a Y pipe and headers, all you TL, and Cl yahoos can read my tailpipes, which by the way are 4 inches wide ! God forbid you run into a 6 spd with headers and Y pies..you will get suckeduo like the inferior product you are !

I've only driven a CL-S once for a short period with the dealer in the car so I couldn't really strech its legs. I did however race one at the track. It was a CL-S automatic that was stock as far as I could tell. I was too at the time. The first run he ran something like an 18! Something to do with traction control since smoke was boiling off his right front tire until the 1/8 mile marker. When he ran me, I ran a 14.3 to his 15.5. Ofcourse the guy was huge, like 350lbs+ huge. I really wish a new CL-S 6spd would come to the track (Steele, AL). I'd love to run one.

You gotta see Comptech's gains for header alone. IT'S SCARY!
(especially since the y-pipe is an integral part of the header, and since no one has a header in mass production for the Maxima...)
I wouldn't dismiss the TL-S/CL-S easily in 6-speed trim.

Ever heard of different conditions? The TL-S is heavier, and its just a given factor that the CL-S is faster. It has been proven on the forums.

4 doors, bad resale.

Nissan tunes there intakes and exhaust for better flow, and aftermarket products make very little to help them out. Now Acura has a header for the CL-S and it makes a huge difference probably because the factory one sucks. People haev already proven that a header on the VQ makes 0 difference.

And you're telling US to worry about resale value? Most of us don't buy our cars based on their future resale value. In fact, you should NEVER buy a car on that basis, it's a hard fact of life, cars are a depreciating liability. Never an investment. A guy that changes cars as often as you might as well lease.
Hey for me, I take the fact that the only faults you can find with the car is that it has too many doors and crappy resale value as a compliment. *cough* oh btw, watch you don't drop your tranny when you floor that badboy
