Hmmm, first, do this instead. Locate your ECU, it is to the right of your gas pedal, behind a removable panel. Remove the panel and this will expose the ECU. You will see a little hole to stick a screwdriver in. Turn the car to Run, but don't start it. Then turn that little screw clockwise until it stops. Wait 2-5 seconds. Then turn it back. As soon as you do this, watch your CEL or your OD Light. It should blink a certain amount of short and long flashes. Write these down and find your problems in the stickies or Haynes manual. When you do this......fix the problem and reset the ECU the PROPER way.
Also, make sure you check that wiring harness located on the front of the drivers side front strut housing. Make sure it is connected. IF not, that WILL be the reason.

to reset the ECU on 3rd gens
reconnect Battery after over-night disconnect or ???
Turn ignition to on position for 2 seconds turn to off for 10 seconds, do that twice, then tap the gas pedal 5x, wait 7 seconds then push the pedal to the floor and hold until check engine light flashes. Don't let it up until it starts flashing. Then start the car within 3 seconds; allow the RPMs gauge to go down to find where its idle is supposed be (750rpm). After 30 seconds then you can drive it and it's done.
