Clutch Problem

Last night I got in my car and tried to drive down the street but stalled. I turned the car on again and found that my clutch pedal feels like it's not there. The clutch has to be almost all the way down to engage, but it finally engages. It is very sensitive making starting from a stop very difficult. I checked the resevoir for the clutch and it was nearly empty so I put more fluid in hoping it was as simple as that, but I still have the same problem. I was wondering if the clutch itself is gone or one of the cylinders in dead. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check you clutch master or slave cylinder, one of them is dead. My slave cylinder went out a coule weeks ago and the same exact thing occured. It sits right on top of the transmission with a line leading to it. Cost me like $150 to get it replaced by a shop. To check the clutch master cylinder, get on the floor by the pedal and look to see if you see any brake fluid around the carpet area. Good luck.

BTW I wouldn't drive it much until you get this done, once it starts losing fluid it tends to lose it quicker and quicker and you won't be able to move the car because you can't get the car started.

Re: Clutch Problem

After you fill the resevoir you need to bleed the clutch system (right now there is probably air in the system - thus you have no clutch).

Yes and no. . . if you add fluid you can regain pressure if everything is ok by pumping it slowly a few times. If there is a leak you may gain pressure only to lose it again.
