will a "Y" pipe take care of this problem?
What exactly does the "y" pipe conect to? The reason why I ask is ,I may have an exhaust leak in the manifold area. It's making a noise louder than usual. Do I have to get this leak repaired or will a "Y" pipe take care of this problem?

It depends where the leak is. If you have a hole in your Y-pipe or a bad gasket, then a new y-pipe and gasket would fix it. However, it could be your cat, headers, etc.

I don't have a y pipe yet, That's why I'm asking
The y-pipe connects to both exhaust manifolds and the catylatic converter. I doub't that it will fix your problem unless one of the y-pipe gaskets is bad, there is a hole or crack in the pipe, or the flex section is shot.
