FLIP FLOP YOUR TRUNK - Pictures and Instructions **ATTN** Nizmolee **ATTN**
Before I even start this, I don't care if you think it is a rice mod, or if you think it is gay, or if you hate me and my car.. there are a few people out there who are interested in this stuff, so all you haters keep it quiet. Thanks much.. enjoy.

This is a picture of the hinge as it needs to be bent, I bought the hinge from Home Depot for $5.49 and had it bent at a hardware store after taking my trunk lid off and finding out what angles were needed
This is the back of the hinge attached to the trunk lid, I drilled 3 completely new holes for the hinge and used self tapping screws
This is a closer picture of the hinge attached to the trunk lid, same spot as the stock mounting piece

This is where it get inventive and tricky, I used a simple locking latch from Home Depot for $2.49 that is used to slide lock fences or what have you, I drilled a hole in the arms of the trunk lid support and the sliding latch will slide the locking pin into the actual arm of the trunk lid support so that it will sit up normally. If you unlock, or unlatch the sliding latch so that it does not slide into the arm, you will let the trunk lid hinge down and sit "flip flop"..
This is also where the other side of the hinge gets bolted onto the mounting arm of the trunk lid, you can see it in the pictures, I used three screws for each and you can see how well the hinge is secured on there.
This is a picture of the holes drilled, 4 to secure the latch onto the trunk lid and then a bigger hole onto the mounting arm for the trunk lid where the latch slides into, you can also see the hinge fully mounted on the car.
Here is a picture of the latch slid into locking position in the arm and everything bolted down

And my friends, that is all there is to it really, when you want the trunk to sit flip flop slide the latch out of the mounting arm and flip flop it.. just remember, you cant close the trunk when it is flip flopped.

I guess this is my disclaimer of sorts.. i am not responsible for what you do to your car.
Depending on how far the hinge you buy swings around, your trunk may sit differently than mine does.. nothing extreme, but it just may be at less of an angle then mine. It is all about the bends you make, and it would be impossible to write out how I made the angles.. it's something you need to just look at and see.
If you do not mount everything correctly you may have issues closing the trunk because it will not line up exactly as it did when it was stock.. you can try and remount everything again or just finagle it into place when you close it or open it like i do.. mine is off a little bit to the left, but it doesnt bother me to shift it back and forth when I close the trunk, it sits the same when it is closed...
That is basically everything.. you need 10mm socket, metal drill bit set with a good drill, self tapping screws, 2 hinges, 2 latches, and a friend to help you out when you get tired of drilling or holding the trunk lid up on your back... and yes you need the winnie the pooh blanket to protect your car when you lay the trunk lid down and metal shavings go everywhere.
enjoy..

Wow.....that's pretty impressive. I dont care what others say about it being "ricey" or whatever but I certainly think that looks pretty done cool. In fact, I think I'll try it on my car.

Very nice mod and instructions. I'm not hating anyone but just want to be enllightened. I can't think of any reason, at this moment, why anyone would need a flip flop trunk. Is it for show, to better get things into you trunk, etc. Can someone enlighten me. Thanks.

You have one of the nicest Maximas I have ever seen - from the interior to the engine bay to the exterior to the trunk your car is sweet. The duals are definitely the hottest exhaust I've seen on a Max yet. BTW, great write-up.

I'm from Altimas.net and I am getting a 98 Max GXE in August. I wrote a very detailed write-up on how to do this.
It's on a 96 Altima but there is a 2% difference between the cars.

I have never seen that before and let me say it looks awesome. So all you do is unlatch that slide lock and it pivots? And if you leave the latch in, it sits like stock?

My one side rattles like a **** since I run 2,400 RMS.

If you guys are worried about rattles or happen to develop rattle(s) with this...
You could always just put a thin piece of rubber in between the metal/hinge, etc. That'd put a stop to any rattling.
I'm off to Home Depot

as was mentioned about 3 weeks or so ago, I am home for the summer in New Jersey where I don't know anyone for anything here.. that is why minimal things are being done to my car while I am home.. when I come back to florida in the fall I should have this done ASAP along with full repaint and some other body work.
