EGT,Boost,Air/Fuel gauge intall???

Is this a DIY install or am i better off going to a shop? and how much would they charge? I'm installing the V2 myself but don't know jack about electrical wiring.
If any of you have tips/info on the wiring I would appreciate anything.
Thanks. I have a pod off an old eclipse.

It's a V2 on an AE

The V2 isnt that hard to my knowledge especially if you use these directions

By the way youll have to cut and paste this link. But as for the guages there should be directions with them if not i think there is plenty of people to help you here on the .org
My advice is not to pay some a$$ your hard earned $$$ to do something you are capable of doing. Just jump in and get your hands dirty the worst thing you can do is not hook it up right so you have to do it agian untill you do.

yeah, i can't figure out why i'm more confident on the V2 install either. but thanks for the link papasmurf... is it true that the auto meter EGT needs an additional probe? how much?

Max'n out, what are your track numbers with your setup? i'll be running the 3.33

The Autometer EGT does require the separate purchase of a probe. I got the #5244 from Summit Racing for about $100.

The power for the EGT you can get that from on of the lighter wires and ground it to something metal. The probe you will have to remove the manifold heat cover and drill a nice hole for the probe.

I got you covered...

I have done A/F gauge & I can do one for you too...
I can setup the wiring for the EGT & Boost gauge. I am nervous about drilling, so I will let you open thge heat sheild & drill a hole in your exhaust manifold... I will run the probe into your engine bay...
Don't sweat gauges... It is time consuming...but easy.

Worry about the SC

It all depends on the model of the gauge. Only certain EGT works with certain probes...etc. Kinda complicated. Just pick up an autometer catalog and it's all in there.

Why EGT and a/f? I would forgo the a/f(unless it's one of those expensive accurate ones) and maybe go with a fuel pressure guage instead?

Good point, I have boost, EGT, and Fuel press. I have never been to fond of a A/F unless you have turbo and adj the boost freq. But if you have S/C and you dyno tune all should be good.

If I only had room for 2 gauges, I would go with EGT & fuel pressure...
unless of course, you guys tell me otherwise

gauges

If you are FI, you would prolly want a boost for sure and then the other is your preference.

I returned the A/F leaving me with
-Boost
-Oil pressure
-EGT

I'm only running an SC no N2O, so what is the importance of fuel pressure besides to make sure that there is some? If EGT goes too high then I'm lean, same thing reversed... isn't that enough to monitor fuel? I just don't want too many gauges. Thanks for all the input guys! anyone know track #'s with 3.33 on a 5th gen 5spd?

Someone going to answer his question? What is the fuel pressure gauge good for if you already have the EGT?

I think FP is good from a tuning perspective if you plan on doing a lot of tuning with fuel. Since you are FI, you could put a gauge under the hood even, since you will on a set fuel curve. If you were NO2, FP is prolly mandatory IMO.

How much did you pay to get all these gauges installed?

Install cost will vary from shop to shop. I think he could install them himself if he can handle the SC install. Gauges are time consuming to install but not any more difficult than a SC install.

BTW

all 3 are Autometer Phantoms

I'm using a 1 single and 1 double 4 gen pod on my 5th gen. the fit is horrible so i have to resort to some fiber glass or bondo. i'll post pics.

Wow, $200 to install all the gauges? Not a bad price. Hopefully some place in Houston will be as inexpensive.
