I actually had a good dealership experience...

So I had a really bad rattling noise coming fromt the rear of my car. It had gotten so bad in the last couple of weeks that all my passengers made comments about it. I had no idea what it was (I checked my muffler & my jack etc..and all those were ok). So I took my car into the local dealer yesterday and guess what! My car stopped rattling. Of course that would happen. So they take my car, test drive it etc, they didn't find the noise. They put the car up on the rack and actually retorqued all the bolts to my suspension and checked everything out. I can notice a difference in driving (everything seems so much tighter). And the rattling noise has not returned. They must think I"m crazy now....

The only thing that pi$$ed me off though....I was talking to the service guy, I was asking all the questions and who does he respond all his answers to? MY HUSBAND! WTH?! I know more about my car than he does, yet he get's all the reaction from the service guy. I think he looked at me twice while answering my questions! That must be a guy thing....

Anyhow all in all, I was afraid they would come back and say something was wrong on my car that wasn't covered under warranty and charge me an arm & a leg and they didn't. I have renewed my faith with Turner Nissan in Sacramento..

Thanks for listening

If that rattle comes back, check the back of the rear seats. There is a frame/bracket that has given others here problems.

To make sure I understand where this frame/bracket is, do I access this from the trunk? I know there is a little metal bar at the top of my trunk that runs under the speakers, but I've checked that and it's not bouncing around to much...

I just want to make sure I will check the right piece..

Thanks

Yes, you can access it from the trunk. The bars that run under the speakers...I think you might be refering to the bootlid springs.

Sarah, I think I may have mislead you >>

That bracket I was refering to, I think it might be a 3rd Gen part. I did a bit more thinking and I know that the rearseat backs of 4th Gens are different because of the passthrough. You can pull those trunk trim panels off anyway though, and check for anything that might be loose...if you hear the rattling again.

Albertt,

That's exactly what I was thinking when reading your first response.....it sounded more like the case with the 3rd gen than the 4th gen, as I've had that issue in the 94.....

Sarah99GXE, did the sound resemble a tin can with loose nuts inside of it rolling around?

Hmmm no, well maybe.. it did sound like a metal to metal clunking. It always happened the most when I was driving over a rough surface...then again I think all the roads around here are rough. The service guy thought maybe I had a rock stuck on top of my gas tank or something....there's no way that's possible, becuase this was no little rock rattle...

Actually you know what the noise reminded me of? In my 3rd gen I had a bad strut in the drivers front side. Every time I went over a bump I would hear the strut hitting because the strut boots were shot. That's what the rear sounds like just really bad. But the dealer said the checked my struts and suspension in the rear and all was good. Funny thing is the noise still hasn't come back since I took it in yesterday morning....we'll see how long that lasts. I'm in the dealer system with a note so If I have to go back I'm top priority for a mechanic to take a test drive to hear it...

Don't take it personally, you'll find the same thing when you're selling your house. I'm single but I just bought a house from a divorced couple. Even though the woman lives in the house now, my realtor generally addressed questions to the husband. Wow, did I get a good price due to their situation, I almost feel guilty, but what the hey, I can't change the world. You always hear about people saying they got lucky and got this great home in a ritzy neighborhood because of the sellers' situation, you never think it'd be you. Sorry neighbors, I hope my '98 Max in the driveway doesn't bring the property values down. Maybe they'll ask me to stow it away in the garage....I'm like George and Weezy, I'm Main Line now baby

Maybe it was a loose rear strut and they tightened it up...
