PA state inspection tomorrow at dealer on 98 bad-boy

c'mon now, this thing should pass the emissions with flying colors, it's a CA emissions car. Why the **** does PA have to charge us $40+ for the test (safety is free with coupon, or $68 total fees)? Only prob I can forsee is my **&^&**(^%*% muffler is rusted-through the outer layer! I guess 4 yrs will do that so if they say I have to replace it my trump card is a 20% off parts/labor coupon. No Greddy for this guy, neighbors do not appreciate that kinda stuff. They probably wont like it either when I subdivide my new house into rental units either

Seriously did you fellas have to replace the muffler at 62k/4 years?

I am drooling, UPS delivered brochures for the 745 and M Series BMWs.....gives a guy something to hope for!

I have a 97 and I passed with flying colors and I never replaced the muffler. I have 78K on the engine and the muffler. Why are they charging you that much, it's only $20 here.
Good Luck,
Paul

Muffler should not affect your emissions ... just your dB.

I'm going on 8 years now on the stock muffler. No rust or holes yet appearing. Now, well over 100,000 miles and still going strong.

Yeah, I checked online, can you believe the 4th gen muffler goes for $249.99 list? Is that outrageous or what?

Mine is not rusted all the way through but it's splitting apart. Wonder if I could have made mine last another 4 years too.....too late.

Dang is the Maxima a skinny car. I'm reading the Bimmer catalogs. New 745 is 74.9" wide, and M3 is even wider at 75.7". I think the 4th gen is like 68.x.........reminds me of that movie Bedazzled when the basketball player takes off his towel and goes.....Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! what the *&^(^(*^*&(^(*
