GD on remote start. Any interest?
I'm about to place an order for remote start units. Does anyone have any interest in purchasing a unit?
Depending upon the amount of people purchasing that'll determine the final price for each unit.
Figure about 45 - 55 per unit + shipping

my wife's remote start is more of a keyless entry than anything. push left button for lock, right button for unlock, and both buttons for start.
can't be much simpler than that.
wsh I could remember what brand it was... paid about $100 for it from the local stereo shop and installed myself. took about 2 hours. not bad at all.

I'd be interested in a couple remote starts one has to be for manual and one for automatic.
But I've had my best luck with DirectStart models so if you carry those or can get them count me in.
www.12voltshop.com is the link for the directstart remote starts.

my work sells rattler remote starts which are made by DEI which makes viper and alot of other alarms. they seem to be pretty good from my expieriance with them and you could install them yourself with a test light and a wire diagram which i bielive is on craig braces site.
if you dont program the TACHOMETER wire or use the voltage sensor for the remote starter it can fry your starter because the remote starter wont know when to disingage it and it could still spin for a few seconds while the engine is running

Their install instructions are straight-forward, uncomplicated with outboard relays (for the remote start units), and compact. And their tech support people know their stuff.
I've also sold/installed DEI as well as Avital (before they got 'absorbed' by DEI) products, and because the R&D person for DEI trained me and was my proctor for my MECP exam, I've got VERY good inside info on both those systems.
If you want to go with Crimestopper, you can virtually lock me in for all my future purchases. I've got their top-of-the-line 2way remote start/alarm installed on my Max and can advise as necessary.
subs1000w - Most, if not all, 'logic' circuits in the better quality remote starts are designed to either recognize tach programming OR voltage sense. That's the beauty of the ones I install - if you don't program the tach, it "defaults" to voltage sense.
But tach programming IS the least problematic....

I'd probably be interested as well... I'd like something with a keyless entry as well tho...
Matt - you say it only took you 2 hrs? Did it come with Maxima-specific directions, or are the universal directions enough?

gowirelessnj - I've installed one of those before. That remote is a bit smaller than mine, but it does the same thing as mine. Their instructions were a bit ghey, though. But still a nice system.

i would only be interested in keyless entry and truck release. If it had any other options on top of that, then no problem. But count me in if you have the stuff i mentioned above.

mine has trunk release, door lock/unlock, parking light flash, one lcd paging remote and one standard remote, loud a$$ siren, remote start on/off, and accessory of my choice. all in all its a great system. plus shock sensor, remote window rollup, starter kill, fuel kill, motion sensor hood and trunk pins and the obvious red led to top it off.

frigid in Houston? I'd recommend a DEI product (dont know about all the others) because they come with lifetime warranty (at least the viper does) and are very easy to redeem with them if anything at all goes wrong. I have a dei remote start/keyless and reinstallation initially took me about 3hrs without soldering. Oh and one touch windows on all sides is sweet too, so internetautomar, you can look into getting the windows modules too.
oh and i believe most starter problems are caused by excessive /over cranking.

It looks like I'll probably be going with the crimestopper RS900

I'll have to double check the price on monday because I left the psheets at my day job

yeah there were some mornings down in houston that my windshield was iced up. Still i'd take houston anyday than dreary dreay kansas over the winter.
i don't know who actually "makes" a remote start system for manuals apart from compustar. Does Direcstart?

Yes directstart does make remote starts for manuals, the activation procedure means you won't start the car in gear.
More info available on their site.
I have a manual in my car and it's the remote start we use for our ford diesel 6-speed tow truck, thats why I was interested.
Sorry for the hijack

I also like Crimestopper stuff. I've used many of there remote starts and keyless entrys on a bunch of maximas, a camry, accord, 2 preludes
I have the RS900IV and am very happy with it. Installed it myself on my 5spd and made it so it wont start in gear

internetautomar - You'll like the RS 900 series. They are now on the series VI, which has a little better-looking remote (for those of us with this indiglo fetish) and a different programming method for their tach. But otherwise, it's straightforward and easy to understand.
And the beauty of Crimestopper (as opposed to DEI) is that you don't have to be an authorized sales/installation store in order to have your customers apply for the company's lifetime warranty, unlike DEI. Just have the customer send in the warranty card and they are IN!
But if you need any tech info on their stuff, they have a guy there named Jesus that no speakie dee engrish well (no offense to my Hispanic brothas and sistas), but knows his SugarHoneyIceTea!!

Keyless entry is included, alarm I'd have to get a different unit for you. Which is actually not a big deal.
This particular vendor has:
Avital
Crimestopper
Marksman
Ultrastart
Valet/Hornet/Python (DEI)
Haven't recieved an e-mail
Also I CAN mix and match units for pricing
