that's a good price. If i had the money, i'd buy 10 sets and sell them for $270+ per set.

Ever one is jumping on the "I'll Buy" bandwagon, we don't what is being offered. What are they going to look like? What is the design boy and girls??? Maybe we can the help of our Photoshop buddies on a conceptual design is created. One of the front bumper design thread went though this process and consensus on the design was agreed to. As everyone knows, there is a design process prior to production. I hope you all are feeling me on this.

what design process...half is red....half is clear, i dotn think we need to agree on a design for a red/clear taillight its not like we even have to choose where the red and where the clear are. the design was done by nissan

Oh, just make a copy of the existing design... How original...
Maybe it's just me. Pardon me for trying to be original. But, I tried.

sry i didnt mean to come off like a **** but how would you propose to change such a simple design while still keeping the cost low to everyone who wants to buy it?

Well, my proposed idea in this thread mentioned the use of clear transparent half clear, half red. This would be our 2004 version spin on the frosted David L's. Simple to make and wouldn't stray too far from the original design. Another thought is to have a light horizontal striping of red over the transparent clear, 80% clear, and 20% red. This would help blend the two halves together, giving an overall red appearance to the entire light. Quite a few +2000 cars have this design and look great. I think various model BMWs, VWs and so on have this design blend the light colors together.

My point is not to raise the idea to go crazy with the design, the housing itself wouldn't allow it. But, I don't believe we have a confirmed cost. If the guy doing the manufacturing of the lens say it would cost $10 more in transparency and another $5 for striping, maybe the buying group would say go for it. I'm just raising the thought of options other lights Max'ers have seen and wished were on the back of their cars. And if other do have thoughts about is, here is the forum to voice those thoughts. Maybe all will agree to uniqueness, maybe not. But, let’s hear those voices. You have to break some eggs to make an omelet…

Brock,
1.) Why do you refer to them as 'frosted David L's'? The lights were made by APC, not David. He just took the APC lights apart and painted the bottom half red (just like I did myself to mine).
2.) As I said before, if you go transparent clear (or 80/20 as you proposed) you now have to do the same to the inner trunk lights so they match. So now people would have to buy 4 lenses instead of 2 and put all 4 lights in the oven instead of 2. More work, more expense. It's possible but I don't see the majority wanting this.
3.) Also, having a transparent clear outer lense really does nothing for us because there is yet another frosted layer internally underneath the external lense which is being made in this project.
Good ideas but I don't see it being practical.

reply:
1. Once the lights halves have been painted, the site seems to term the lights as Davis L's.
2. It's just another thought on approaching the design process. The group may think this is a good way to go. The manufacturer may give us a great price for the 4 lens. I'm just putting the idea on the table.
3. I raised the issue before that I didn't know what the light housing internals looked like with the lens off. Maybe someone could post a picture.

So, there is an additional red and white frosted inner lens piece that must stay in place inside the outer lens? If that were the case, then that totally cancels the transparency idea. If anyone can post a picture of one of the lights with the lens off, that would be very helpful.

Even if it w3re a 4 peice design, and under 200 bucks, it would be great...ANYTHING will be better than gay a$$ altezas or 500 dollar red clears that are getting old and beat up, and have gone throu like 4 owners a peice..
LOL

The whole entire point of this thread is that he will 'have the clears to paint'. ??

Brock, take a look inside, it's easy to see. Go in your trunk, pull back the carpet, and simply pull out the light housing (no tools needed) from the back of the light (the outer lights). Look inside. You'll see an additional frosted layer in there in each half. I think they both are clear (I can't tell if they are colored or if just colored light is shining through them). Either way, they are definitely frosted, not transparent.

You guys are all crazy and argue to much. This is for red/clear lenses so there will be no painting involved. You'll just take out your taillight, take the lens apart from the assembly and put the new lens on. That's it. They will look similar to the David L mod but we won't have that stupid white line around the taillight.

Now, I just talked to the guy in australia, David A, He said that shipping will turn out to be 10% of the price. So about $10-15. So the total price will end up being $120-$130. I'm going to be sending him a lens on Friday so he can make sure to match the red on the new lenses.

Like always when I hear more info I'll let you guys know.

We weren't being argumentative, just expressing our healthy viewpoints. My impression was that for plus $110 you were offering new lens for all four lights, not just the two outer’s housings. So of course, four new lenses would afford an opportunity for a new, more up-to-date design. Your chime in has clarified thing. Would have nice though.... Red and clears across the back end.

There are still some things that have been unanswered but maybe now that he's given me a price he'll email me back on a regular basis. So this isn't final, but probably close to the price if not exactly it. I'm hoping to get lower than $110 or $115 if that is what he's looking at.
Im in if it matches up well....
Im sure almost everyone else with a 95-96 is in also......if this guy can produce good quality lenses he will have well over 200 customers.

Is this for real? Im scared this deal might not go through like the others. I cant wait, and will pay when i see a final product. Keep up the good work and thanks for putting this thing together!

I'm shipping the guy one of my outer taillights tomorrow. He wanted to get the lens so he could match the reds as best as possible, I told him this was very important. Plus I might think it will be helpful in him creating this for us. Anyway, I'll let you know any new news.

Easy as eating pie. You just put the taillight in the oven at 200 degrees let it sit for 10 minutes, take it out use a flat head screwdriver and start prying it apart in different areas until it comes apart. I just now need to figure out is what kind of adhesive to use when I put the new lens on, seeing as the current lens took most of the gluey stuff with it.
