FYI: The write-up is now completed and is undergoing review by several third-party sources, including professional installers. Once any errors are found and corrected, I will post the link to the write-up. Beware that the write-up is lengthy and detailed, but is currently 22 pages long when printed out on standard letter-sized paper. Photographs and diagrams are also included.

According to Alex, we still need at least 9 more people. Pay up people so we can get this alarm shipping. It sucks having to install it on another Maxima when you've already ordered one (or four in my case) and can't get yours yet. Let's get this deal sealed soon.

hey Alex it is a 555u, not a 551u right??
That is correct. It is a 555U.

Studman, great job. Are the instructions applicable for the 4th gen max's?
At this time, the instructions cannot be applied to the 4th gen. The wire tapping locations, as well as the color codes are different between the 4th gen and the 5th gen.

If there is a 4th gen in the Central Florida area that is ordering the alarm, I will offer assistance during the install, provided that you allow time for a write-up to occur. If you are a 4th gen and are interested, please PM me. Do not reply to me in the thread, as it would be a security risk for people to know whose car the alarm was installed in.

So with these instructions, can this alarm be installed by a non-professional installer, with basic wiring knowledge?

So with these instructions, can this alarm be installed by a non-professional installer, with basic wiring knowledge?
That is the general idea. You'll definitely need some knowledge of car stereo wiring (i.e. using 3M taps and spade connectors). I'll go ahead and give you the supply list that I have right now, but understand that this list could still change, as the write-up is still being reviewed for accuracy and for consistency.

Tools That Are Needed (as of Revision 1.05):
Socket Wrench (3/8" Drive Preferred)
10mm Deep Socket
12mm Deep Socket
12" Socket Extension
Phillips Screwdriver (Multiple sizes help)
Flat-Head Screwdriver (Multiple sizes help)
Ratcheting Crimpers (Pick up at your local Auto Parts Store for about $20)
Pair of Wire Strippers (I use the cheap ones at Home Depot - They are Yellow handled and are around $10 in the electrical aisle)
Drill and Drill Bit Set (you will use different sizes for different things)
Needlenose Pliers
Wire Cutters
Metal File

Parts and Supplies That Are Required (as of Revision 1.05):
Electrical Tape (1 Roll)
Bag of Wire Ties (20-30 Minimum Needed)
Several Red 3M Taps (Get about 20-25 of them)
Several Blue 3M Taps (I bought 10 and had some left over)
Several Yellow 3M Taps (I bought 10 and had some left over)
Several Red Male Spade Connectors (Get a box of 25-50)
A few Red Female Spade Connectors (A bag of 5 should do)
A few Blue Male Spade Connectors (A bag of 10-20 should do)
A few Blue Female Spade Connectors (A bag of 5 should do)
(1) +12v Relay (Automobile Standard Relay)
(15 feet) 2-Conductor 18-Guage (or Higher) Wire (the 530T installation changes this requirement)
1.5' of Plastic/Vinyl Sheathing (should be sized to fit snugly around the wire)
Plastic Grommet (should be sized to fit snugly around the wire and sheathing)
One of your keys (Valet Key Preferred)

Other than the tools required, expect to spend around $20-30 at a local Radio Shack for the supplies. I would recommend finding an electronic's surplus store in your area. You can pick up the same parts from them for about $10.

The 530T write-up is still in it's first draft. The wiring requirements for the door lock/unlock wire changes with the 530T. If you are planning to install the 530T at the same time as the alarm, please do not buy the 15-feet of wire. I will post more soon about the wiring requirements for installing the 530T.

I'm willing to bet that the $499.95 price doesn't include the retail cost of the 555U transponder. Add that to the price tag and you'd save money by entering the GD. Also, I'm not sure that I'd want Best Buy or Circuit City installing my alarm. While they both do a decent job and are reliable, they install every alarm the exact same way. So if someone found out that your alarm was installed there, they could know exactly where the brain is, etc. Just a word of warning.

Try visiting some local audio shops that are independent. You should be able to get a better price.

I also want to know how many more people we need?

Alex, will you be shipping the alarm out, or will your supplier? Some of my concerns are duties, taxes, and the fact that I'm weary about joining in another gd after getting screwed by Maxxtuning. Other than that, I'm really interested in this deal.

I would also like to know about the taxes and duties. Please post answers to those questions. Thanks, Alex.

Also, I am shipping the alarms, not the distributor. I am cutting this off tomorrow, and even if we don't have 30, I will talk to the distributor, and at least find out if we can get away with 24 (including me).... I really want to get this alarm.

Let me know your input about this.
Thanks

I don't think so....the guys at his stereo shop are cool as ****, and its a small business (he has two or three stores here in PHX), but he was more than grateful and is willing to work with us on any other GDs we need for stereo stuff in the future.....but I don't think he would get ****ed off...I have kept him posted on everything....
