well I kinda knew the 300zx front calipers wouldn't fit under my wheels. I finally confirmed that today. Matt you had on your site to measure 5 1/4" from the center of the wheel and out along a spoke. Then measure 2 1/2" from the stock rotor to the spoke...... well I only have 2" from the rotor to the spoke. I guess I'll be looking into some spacers one I get all my parts and confirm it.

Here's a link to a caliper template I made up. it's crude, but it works. print this thing out, cut away ALL of the the white portion, remove one of your wheels, stick the template inside, and if it clears then the brake kit will fit on your car.

I printed that thing out the other day and it was huge on paper.... I don't know if I did it right, but I just measure instead. (I also mailed my payment Monday)

it looks pretty huge, but that's how big the calipers actually are... I need to find a way to put measurements on it, but never could get that part in photoshop. I measured the hub bore on the thing and it's within 1mm, and if I measure out from the center 5.1/4" and then measure the distance from the face in the diagram to the edge of the caliper in the template, it comes up very close to the 2.5" that I have specified on my webpage.

Does anyone know what other parts are needed if you buy some auto zone type rebuilt calipers for the rear BBK? Shims, pins, springs, etc?

It's very likely you'll need all of that stuff as well. If you buy the bare calipers, you'll need all of those parts. If you buy the "loaded" calipers, they come with all of the shims and pins and some cheapo pads that will get you going for a while.
you can also buy all those parts from the dealer for not much money. I think the entire set of shims, clips, and pins is about $75 for the fronts. should be cheaper on the rears.

not yet.. heater core is in a box in the garage, but I haven't had time to rip the car apart yet. brakes stopped dragging on the drive home.. that sometimes happens after track events since the pads wear a bit unevenly. one corner will drag a little until it's worn flat again.

Hey Matt, do you happend to know if the nissan 300zx caliper sold by derrick in the GD section: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=318896 can be use with your kit ? Both kit are appealing but I dont want to deal with the mill down of the Zrotor, so I was thinking maybe I can buy his caliper with your kit I want to upgrade to big brake front & rear. I would appreciate your input on this.

Cheers

Matt's kit takes 300zx calipers....... and yes derrick is selling 300zx calipers. I just got some calipers in the mail from derrick. They look good except that he sent me one black one. I just decided to paint over them both. I don't know what's up w/ the black. The black isn't painted on and won't come off when sanded.

AA, that's part of the reason Darrick is selling the calipers.
Yes, they'll fit just fine. Darrick and I have had some conversations about this over the last few months, and he agreed to continue buying them to supply you guys buying my brake kits. Everybody is happy that way.

Matt, will we be needing the rear caliper mounting bolts, brake hardline extension, and hardline extension to rubber hose mounting bracket from the original 300zx rear caliper setup?

Don't worry about any of that. Matt's kit takes care of the mounting, hardware, and most importantly the emergency brake like hookup.

Mark, my kit will come with all of that. All you need to supply are rotors, calipers, pads, and brake fluid.

I have a huge box of brake hardware and custom brake lines waiting for the rest of the parts to get here from the fab shop.

Slammed95, the numbers I have on here show brake bias to be nearly identical to stock!
factory 4th gen setup: 79.2% front bias
Your Custom 14.8" 6 piston in front, Z32 setup in rear: 79.1% front.

Rear caliper sizes: factory 4th and 5th gen: single 1.337" piston
Z32: TWO 1.50" pistons

Sooo, my kit should be great on your car.

nope. won't work. you're neglecting the parking brake and f/r bias if you do that. the rotors don't just simply bolt on to the hubs and work.

front you have a lot of choices. stock, Z32, my setups with stock or Z32 calipers, Stillen has a couple kits, Several kits out there using wilwood calipers, TET has a couple nice AP racing kits, several other places...

rear, you have stock or this.

the rotors you buy yourself for the Z32, so you can choose what you want- slotted, drilled, solid, whatever.
