You dont need this. This story has been going on for yrs on many car forums. And like it is stated in an earlier post, if you entire filter is underwater, you car will be jacked regardless. Ive read in places that a bypass valve can actually restrict airflow and thus remove some of the benefit of the CAI.
Just my 2 cents. It rains likes hell here in Austin, we have had like 55+ inches so far this year, and there has been no place where my filter would be underwater.
Installed!!!!!
Well, myself and I35Junkie installed ours last night in my garage. I was under the assumption the hard part was drilling the 3-1/8" hole!!! Boy was I wrong!! Between he and I, the installs on our cars took about 5.5 hours. Yes I am mechanically inclined (before you ask). The instructions were fairly straight forward, but it was the fine tuning that took so long. If we said, "Man, wonder where that set of wires is going to run now?" once we said it 50 times. Well, I got mine adjusted such that the fuse box on the right did not have to be modified. I35Junkie, had to take a Dremel to his to make it fit. All in all, I am very happy with the intake. I was surprised as to the noise and vibration that the car makes at WOT. I love it!! Thanks for this group deal!!
Will post pics soon.
Will post pics soon.
Got mine in today, and got it installed today.
The shop estimated it would take 1 hour and cost 60 dollars. It actually took 2.5 hrs but they still charged me only 60 bucks because that was their estimate and i was about to die from waiting so long.
Holy crap, the wait was worth it, this thing is a BEAST. looks awesome, sounds SOO awesome, and i can really feel it in the low end!!!
THANKS A TON GUYS!

Freaking Sweet.....I'll be getting 2, thanks.....
can someone quickly summerize the main points that make this one better, or should i say different than the other intakes offered? been reading through this, but locating this info on 17 pages gets quite cumbersome.
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.
Well its a true CAI, which means its getting outside temp air from fenderwell infront of front left tire, not engine temp air, and its like 100 dollars less than all other CAI's and works just as good, if not better than the rest.
Sounds great tooo, i scared my mom, and she was in my car, she was like, 'oh my god thats a growler' lol...

I took almost 50 pics. I'll try to get them zipped and will need a place to host. Yeah, Hayes and I thought the drilling part was the hardest part and we were so WRONG!!!!!.
To the folks doing the install yourselves, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME AND GET THE PIPES POSITIONED CORRECTLY!!!!! I was impatient and that is why I used the dremel tool to make things fit. I will go back in this weekend and play with the fitting and make everything fit correctly. I am getting a rubbing noise at the moment and have looked and I do not see anything rubbing. I think it is the intake moving with the engine on the rubber piece of the hole I cut. I think it is just going to take some playing with.
And then there is the fise box that is on the fender. If you run into this you will know what I am talking about, when nothing seems to fit. There is a white box on the underside of it, that must come off. Of course those of you that can read may not have this problem.
Another note, when removing the MAF from the existing air box, BE CAREFUL!! I did not have any problems, but others have. If the housing for the MAF breaks, it is like $400+ for another as you cannot buy the housing without the MAF in it. - Hayes gets the credit for this one.
If you are doing the complete cai, you may want to take off the front tire. That will allow you to reach the area to install the filter more easily. Hayes had a jack and an impact gun and was able to get the tires off very easily!
I think that about covers it. Ya'll be safe and be careful when installing the intake!
And thanks to 6spd_Hayes for the assist!!!!
Hayes, Did I miss anything?

Good warning about the MAF assembly. Also be sure not to touch the MAF itself with anything at any point.
Wow, that's a nice garage for modding. You should see mine—I can barely get my driver's door open it's so narrow.
Got my pics up.

is it that hard to install for the 5th gens without the 3.5?? i was thinkin about buying one, but its my max, i try and tinker with it as little as i can to lessen the chance of stuff breaking, how much fabing does the install require?

That's sweet and all, but I should pose this question. For 5.5's, what would your review for this be. I've experienced an Injen intake and trying to make a comparison.
Thanks.
Great pic's. Thanks for posting all that great install info too. Seeing people do installs and modding together is awesome. It makes me want to go to a Maxima meet. I can't wait until there is another meet near me so I can go. Anyways, let me know if any of you have any more questions. PM me or email me. Gotta go study for my finals now.

See the lower pipe? Take that off and attach the filter there. The O2 is the same as the MAF right? That is in the black housing in between the upper and lower pipe.
Did that answer your question?
Im really interested in buying this but before i do, want to ask some questions. What if I don't want to drill a hole, is there possiblity installing this CAI without drilling, if so can you guys point out any tips or something?
Thanks in advance looking forward to replys

Hey I35Junkie or Hayes, does the intake come with the rubber guards you have that covers the hole that you drilled or did you buy those. If you bought them, where do you think I could get some, I have bought the intake, and it should be arriving by next week hopefully. So was gonna install it, and want to cover the hole I make also. Thanks

It came with the kit. You may need to trim it just a little. The ring is actually in a strip and I had to trim mine by a half inch while Elon had to trim his about an inch.
One thing that we failed to mention is that we did some extra things to the hole after it was cut. We took Elon's Dremel and sanded the burrs off the underside and then Elon had some Silicon and we put that on the bare metal to keep from rust over the next 100 years. The Silicon may not be needed, but it was a good idea and since it was handy.
Hey Hayes, Is there anything specific about the silicon that may help the others when going to buy it. Is there a certain kind that they need?

I know we've sold a few of these to people who aren't planning to use the lower tube - its still a great deal. We've been selling exactly that configuration for years as the Cattman COMBO intake (choice of Monsterflow or JWT POP intakes), and for an underhood intake, it works darned well.
To put it another way, without the lower tube, its like the "Berk" intake - that they've been selling for 2 years, and we've been selling for 5 ;-)
