FWIW, its actually somewhat easier to install in the 00-01s than the 02-03s. With the VQ35DE underhood configuration, everything gets a little bit tighter and the adjustment of the tubes, connectors, etc. that others have referred to (i.e. get this right before you start grinding on things!) has to be somewhat more precise because there is less clearance. More wiggle room on the 00-01 VQ30DEs.

If anyone's interested, I have some small Cattman stickers that would fit - they're the ones that we put on the Cattman CAIs (which are basically the same thing). Not much point in advertising Place since they're going out of the performance parts business.

If these had gone out of our warehouse, you'd get a couple of our larger 7" stickers. If you'd like a pair of the 7" and/or a small 3" (black or white in both sizes) just send me email with your address.

There's a sensor that attaches to the lower tube (I thought it was an O2 sensor?); where does it go if this system is only used as a wai?

I just installed mine yesterday. Whew! what a challenge. Nah, I'm not the most mechanically inclined, and I did it in about 3 hours which seems almost average. It is a very tight fit, but no SES light, and everything is working fine. I did notice a little better mid to high end, and that nice sound! Definitely worth the $$$ spent, except for the fact that I ran into one of my friends, ( who just so happened to have a brand new PR CAI that was for my year max ). He said he was going to use it, and would've sold it to me REAL cheap! Oh well, I'm happy......Thanks Greg and Brian!

Anybody who installed their CAI noticed a "creaking" sound? I just installed mine on Saturday and I'm noticing a slight rubbing sound when making turns and reversing?. Is the lower piping supposed to be snug, or is there supposed to be some play? It just sounds like the piping is rubbing the rubber grommet. I35 or Hayes, you guys noticed anything like that, or do I just need to adjust the piping. Let me know!

Bran808, I have the creaking sound also. If you pop the hood and using your hand move the lower pipe, do you get the rubbing sound? I do and that is when I figured it was the pipe rubbing on the rubber surround on the hole. I don't think Hayes had the problem. I did take the battery out last Saturday morning and play around with the lower pipe fitting and it helped some, but I was not able to get to one bolt to get the battery tray out to actually get to the hole for the needed adjustment. I'll have to wait until I have more time or Elon's tools.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, that's what I figured too. I hear that sound when I move around the piping. I hope the answer is not to enlarge the hole, because I wouldn't want to re-do the "hole" thing all over again....no pun intended. Let me know if you resolve any issues. The only reason why I left it so snug was because it stated in the instructions that this rubber ring is the only thing that holds the piping in place. I figured it was supposed to be tight?!

I feel your pain bro. I got a tracking by reference number which was supposed to show on UPS's system on 12/9 and as of writing this post, it still has not. I called them and they say that the number given to me is not in the system.

I PM'd Greg so lets see what he has got to say. I am only concerned since my card was charged and I have nothing to show for it nor any tracking number to show the package is on the way. I am sure this will all work out right as many folks have already gotten their cai's. I guess I am just a bit eager to have it so I can get it installed by new Years!

I'll step in here since Greg may not come on line till later today. Please follow up with him if necessary, he's on top of what's going on.

No question, the service we're getting from Place Racing is causing a lot of delays and I understand everyone's irritation. The good news is that every order received through December 05 began shipping yesterday (21 of 52 went out). They expect to finish sending this batch today (tomorrow at the latest, but I suspect today). Those of you with reference #s (they're all the same, 520575 and then fill in your zip code and select "United States") can check this out and if they haven't shipped yet, try late tonight when today's orders will appear.

The orders that are shipping now are the third batch we sent to PR and they accumulated between 17 November and 05 December. PR didn't ship the second batch of orders till the first week of December, and so we charged all the CCs and sent them the check/order forms for the third batch that week with the expectation that they would ship early last week.

They didn't follow through, and promised they'd go out last Friday. Friday came and went, but they finally swung into action yesterday and today. Anyway, that's the reason for the delay between CCs being charged and shipping the goods. We charged all the cards and overnighted (talk about a waste of $) a check, but 10 days have passed since then so the $ hasn't been in our bank account. Our regular policy is to only charge the card when the order ships out, but that's not possible because we have to send the money to PR in advance.

I've written about it previously in this thread, so I'll just sum it up now by saying that PR now makes tractor parts with 2 employees, including the owner. That production is the first priority for them, and then they ship the CAIs for the GD. The owner is a real nice guy, and very honest - no one need fear for a moment that they won't get what they ordered - but PR was never too good at customer service when they had the resources to do it, and its very slow now.

We very much regret the delays and broken schedules, but everyone's order/$ is safe, and thank goodness they're going out now. It is a very good product offered at a very good price, and those who have received them are obviously pleased. Unfortunately, the price you pay for the good deal is having to be very patient.

We will send a smaller fourth batch of intake orders to PR at the end of this week (those received between 06 December and 17 December), and I given the discussions we had yesterday I expect them to handle this smaller batch more quickly. They have been made aware that their performance is hurting the group deal sales, so they have promised to do better. If you haven't purchased one yet, they are still available in a variety of colors for all 89-03 Maximas and 95-04 I30s/I35s.

The engine moves quite a bit fore and aft as you increase or back off on the gas, so of course the intake moves with it. I think the speculation about this being more likely to happen if the hole is 3" is correct. I've drilled the hole at 3.25" and its less apparent. Try spraying it occaisionally with a silicone lubricant (WD40 would probably work too, but could degrade the rubber moulding), that should eliminate the squeak and its easier than trying to drill that hole 1/4" bigger.

Good News!

The owner of Place Racing just called to tell me that almost all of the last batch of orders has shipped. There were 3 orders he had questions about, and they will all go out tomorrow (this applies to Wayne C in NY, Robert T in CA and Joseph C in MN). Everyone else should be able to get their tracking #s later tonight.

Thanks to all for their patience. Orders collected after 06 December are supposed to go out nearly next week.

Just to check in with everyone. I'm still here able to answer any questions or concern. If you have any problems with the tracking of the CAI let me know. I am an expert in tracking UPS packages. Its what I do until I graduate college of course. The Group BUY is still on. I know there have been some problems with the shipping, but its still a smokin deal for what you get for the price of these bad boys. Thanks for your patience and understanding. and again let me know if you have any questions.

I got to commend you guys on your quick replies. Thanks and I must say... Its so hard to be patient! The end result is the good thing though. Awesome CAI at a cheap price. I can not complain.

Thanks for setting my (and others too) mind at ease.

Okay the reference number I got resolves to a tracking # for me now (no info on the tracking #, but at least we are somewhere, hasn't been picked up yet tho) and I have another tracking number that just started shipping from AZ (I'm guessing this is the tackifier spray as it's a bit less, 1.6lbs compared to 7 I think). So hopefully everything is on it's way (for everyone else as well).

I'm not in too much of a rush, except hoping to get it before I go on vacation else I will have to put it on hold or redirect somewhere.... (and hopefully the duty charge isn't too much.... :-)

Thanks Brian, I'll try that a little later on today. Is there any downsides to making the hole too big? It really doesn't seen like the intake is going anywhere. It fits very snug around the battery, and under the fuse box. Well, I'll try the WD40 first and then we'll see. It doesn't bother me too much, but it bothers me when my GF keeps asking what's that sound? what's that sound? what's that sound!

Well, obviously you wouldn't want or need a grossly oversized hole, but a little larger is fine. Note that in my previous message I suggested NOT using WD40 because its petroleum-based and would very likely degrade the plastic molding around the hole and you do not want that to happen. Try finding a silicone-based spray-on lubricant.

My original inventory sheet had zero silvers for 00/01s. That seemed odd because there were quite few in the other applications, so I asked them to look around the warehouse . They didn't find any at first, but then 7 turned up on a high shelf. This was just discovered a week or two ago.

I agree! I have called Cattman about products in the past with no intent of buying and just to ask questions. They knew I was not going to buy and were still more than happy to answer anything that I threw at them. Then there's Brian, well, Brian is one of the coolest cats I have ever dealt with. He doesn't BS and has the know how to get stuff done. Last but not least, Greg, Thanks for pulling all this together and weathering through the $hit storm when all the intakes were delayed. I know I gave a little hell about the delay.

All in all, I'd do it again! Thanks to all that bought and made the GD happen and to Greag and Brian for pulling it together.

Got my intake last night, I damn near cried and put it next to my bed as I slept. Big up's to Brian and especially GREG for putting this together. If you guys do another GD and it's tangible for my car, i'm in.
