2000-2001 Navigation...

Hi guys,

I'm just curious if anyone has added the pop up navigation to their i30's. My parents have a '01 i30t, fully loaded except for navi. I may be purchasing it after the lease it up and i would love to have the navi in there.

Anyway, any info, comments, suggestions etc. are welcomed!

Re: 2000-2001 Navigation...

Thats the problem, maxima and I30s OWNED accord soo badly and TLs previously. But now ur lackin the navigation, wtf?

Fine I wont compare TL to the max, since its soo much more, but even a accord, which used to be inferior, now has navi with 5spd auto, maxi doesnt have either?? hopefully it changes in 2004

WTF??? Do some research, you can get navigation in 03 Maxima's and in I30's from this current generation. However it is an option, find a car in this price range that is including Navigation for free.

you can get an aftermarket nav. system from Alpine or Pioneer much cheaper than the OEM system.

HONDA.CA new fully loaded accord with nav, leather and everythin, ex v6 is only 33500 canadian. A top of the line max with everythin and not counting the nav is like wha 36 37k, GLE model? no 5spd auto as well.

My I35 didn't come with NAV and I was in the same situation as you. I also looked at the Pioneer systems (nice!) but don't quite have the funds on hand for that kind of operation.

Instead I got a Pharos GPS system (GPS receiver antenna, nationwide map software) for my Jornada Pocket PC (Also upgraded to a new Jornada at the same time). It has voice prompts, text directions, and auto-rerouting. I even got a nifty mount for it on the dash

You may want to look into something like that if NAV is something you want. It's affordable, has the features, and what's cooler than having a pocket pc to play around with when you're outside of the car

Yeah, good ideas, but i would love to have the pop up screen. Not just for navi, but for dvd's (company in brooklyn, NY does oem navi - mulitmedia setups). I have to look into this some more and see.

Maybe, someone with the pop up navi could post soem pics of it? not the lcd itself, but the inside, maybe some of the mechanics? SOmething to help. Infiniti dealerships don't like me looking at that kind of stuff, lol.

I can get ya pics of the Pop-up nav for the I35. My dad's I35 has it. So maybe I can get some in a few.

John

P.S. I went searching through my webspace and found some images from my car and my dad's car. Just so happens I have a video file showing his NAV setup - so it might be helpful:

How did you remove the air vents/dash/etc? Particularly the air vents. I'm going to need to remove my HU sometime soon and was wondering how to go about getting to the mounting screws.

Thanks!

Use a flathead screwdriver and carefully pop the air vents out from the bottom.

I just did it this afternoon. It's the same. I found (by MaineI30's advice) that it was easier to put the screwdriver in a cloth, then work at the vent assembly from the sides. You'll have to be a little rough with it once you start getting it worked out, and then it will pop out (maybe with a loud bang, freaking you out thinking you broke something, but you really didn't).

Some advice - eject all your CDs before removing the HU, because inevitably, they will all eject as your hands are working all over the dash. Mine spit them all out at once, hehe.

same thing you did to the air vents...pop the surrounding wood trim around the shifter. dont forget to shift to neutral to remove the wood trim. there should be two screws behind where the bottom tray was. now you are able to remove the head unit.
