Getting 17" wheels, what diamiter tire to use?

Hey everyone, I have a 1998 I30 standard model and I want to get some 17' ADR Akunin wheels. They are 17 by 7 with an offset of 38. Can I use 215 45 ZR17 tires to fit this wheel combination? Also since the offset is 38 and not the stock 40, will this affect the cars ride?

Your stock size is 205-65-15, right? If so, I would go with 225-50-17. If the wheel was 17x8, then 235-45-17 would be a better fit.

My stock size is 205 65 15, I read in the max faq section of this website that I could use 215 45 17's on 17 by 7 inch wheels. Is this the case though, because I already have these tires which I bought off a friend but dont have the wheels yet.

I think it's 225-45-17 that would work, not 215.

The 38 offset will be fine. It will actually be better because the wheel won't be inset so much. I went from a 45mm offset to 40 and I wish I would have gone to 38mm offset.

Are you sure your stock offset is 40 not 45?

you really should go with a 225/45.

I would go on to say that depending on the offset, a 235 will cup really bad because of our inability to adjust camber. a 215-45 will work on your car but your speedometer will be off about 3mph.
