Flashing Airbag Light

I'm about to buy a 97 I30 but the airbag light flashes. The dealer says it's no big deal, of course they'll fix it for $500!! What does the flashing light mean and what is needed to fix it? It's a really sweet car with only 62000 miles. But the dealer is pi#@!@ me off over this.

it all depends on why it's flashing.... if they check on it they should be able to find out why it's flashing.... and u shouldn't have to buy the car with it flashing and pay them extra $500 to have it fixed..... they should fix it b 4 they sell it.....

also i think there is a law where they need to fix the airbag and it's in good standing b 4 they can sell the car.....

There is a law, i dotn know the exact phraseology off hand, but the general idea is that upon time of sale, the car has to be in safe condition. Tell them to fix it, it should be just a plug-in the computer, and reset it.
