Sound deadening

Has anyone sound deadened their I 30. Mine has alot of noise coming from the rear, mostly road noise. These cars are supposed to have more insulation than a Max but after looking around in the trunk I don't see a whole lot of insulation back there. There are alot of different materials for deadening out there, what did you use and what areas made the biggest difference ?

I'm going to start with new tires, one's one the car are out of round and getting worse. Thinking of Bridgestone Insignia Sl , Put them on the Seville and made a real difference in ride and road noise. Seville's have alot of road noise to, or least this did , still not a real quiet car.

i ordered some elemental design's E.Dead v3. its like dynamat except it comes in a liquid form and you apply it with either a paintbrush or a high power undercoat sprayer. It cost me a total of $125 with shipping. I got 2 gallons of this stuff. According to their website, 2 gallons roughly covers 100 sq ft. Im planning on doing my entire car this weekend. Ill let you guys know how it turns out.

I think that I am going to do this for sure!!! I am tired of the hollow feeling I get while driving around. After I am done this baby will have a vault like strucure.

I think am going to go the Kevlo route and buy the cheap Peel n' Seal stuff from Home Depot instead of Brown Bread and double layer it on the door panels and trunk. I think I will add some generic foam as a Lcomp substitute as well. The brand name Brown bread is 179.00 for a 70 squre foot roll, and the Lcomp foam is about 50.00 for 8 square feet! What a rip off!

I will not do under carpet as I felt under there and Nissan put like 1/2-1'' thick foam, where as the doors and trunk have no insullation what so ever. Keep you guys posted!

If you're going to double layer the Peel 'n Seal, the cost is about the same as Brown Bread. Also, I thought the L-comp was the best value. I just cut that piece in half and put it under the front carpet on the driver's side and passenger side, as far up the firewall as I could push it. It helped block engine noise and keeps vibration off your feet... just makes the ride feel more solid. L-comp has a layer of lead through the middle which makes it the best sound blocker.

The only sound deadening material in the doors of my '96 I-30t was a small block of styrofoam. Make sure you leave room inside the door for the windows to roll down.

Will this add lot of weight? I know dynamat weights alot, If you add alot of this then it will slow your car down due to the weight.

Brown Bread is .35 pounds per square foot, so 50 sq. feet is about 17 pounds.

The stuff at home depot is about $25 for a 25 square foot roll. That is $1 per square foot. That would mean for $140 I can get 140 square feet which is double the amount of the brown bread roll for 40 bucks less. Plus 2 layers of peel n' seal is supposed to be better than dynamat and brown bread. As far as the Lcomp, that layer of lead is nice, and is better than simple foam, but I think that it will suffice for my needs. I am sure that the brand name stuff great, but I don't want to spend all that much on this particular project.

I plan on doing this on the up coming weekend!

The amount of sound deadening material in the 4th gen Max/ 1st gen I30 is pretty pathetic and those small blocks of styrofoam in the door panels is not much.

If you dropped in 100 square feet, you would only add about 30 lbs. You would not even feel it and that extra weight would be like putting a briefcase in your trunk. No big deal at all.

Forget the stories about people making their cars 300 lbs. more heavy by doing this. I don't even know how that would be possible. One would have to sound deaden up the a$$.

Let us know how it goes. I bet that one layer of Peel & Seal would be enough in some places. For a sound deadener, you're only trying to stop vibrations from passing along the metal. You don't need 100% coverage to accomplish that. You will notice a lot of similar stock material stuck on the metal under the carpet in the passenger area. There is additional stock foam up by the firewall and under the front passengers' feet.

Also, while you have the door panels off, don't forget to see if there are any small dents you can rub out from from the inside.

So you would recommend putting the peel n seal on the metal of the door. I was also thinking about putting some around the speakers as well. Where in the doors would you put the foam? I was thinking about putting it on the back side of the door panels OR on the clear plastic sheet that lines the inside of the door. I also got all NEW door clips/ pegs so when I pop the panel I can replace them for a brand new tight fit.

Fortunately I have NO dents/ dings at all!! That is pretty impressive for an 8 year old car. Knock on wood!
