does anybody in here have a cold air intake system installed on their i30? mine is a auto tranny...will i notice the difference? just wondering? also, what works with our cars? i have a 96 btw.

i also i have 96 but i have the short ram stillen intake..its a noticable difference and a little louder

The only differences I saw was it was louder. You really need a y-pipe to match the intake. Personally, I'd just go with the short-ram intake.
2 reasons:
1. The longer the intake piping the more restricting it will be when the engine's at higher RPMs gasping for air.
2. After the initial launch, I don't think there's enough difference between an CAI and short ram.

I would ONLY go with a CAI, either Cattman or PR -they are the same thing-.

They look better under the hood,
They bring in colder, more dense air,
And longer intake piping is actually GOOD if you want power throughout more of the rev range and not a low-end lose with a peak at redline.

when I was auto, CAI wasnt as responsive and doesnt pick up speed as quick in the highway compared to a shorter style intake. It seem to need more pedal effort to get it up to speed. I do miss the sound of the CAI though

Go with the hacked air box. Check the thread in 4th gens. It will gain you low-end instead of losing it with cai, and sounds nice.
Save your money for other mods.

I have never heard anyone say that a CAI will not cause you to lose low end power, but I wouldn't exactly bet my life either way.

Personally, I have a "cross drilled" air box, which is basically the result of putting 25-30 holes into my airbox using a 1/4" drill. I do feel slight performance gains and my low end improved especially after cleaning my throttle body. I also LOVE the sound because it is very mellow, not ripping loud like a hacked air box or even CAI.

My friend with a 1997 Maxima SE hacked his air box, and by hacked, I mean completely massacred it. We didn't use a dremel or any sort of useful tool - just took hedge clippers and banged away leaving a large, gaping hole in the air box. His sounds angry and he notices a performance difference.

Regardless, if CAI's and hacked air boxes and whatever else work on 4th gen Maximas, then they'll work on our I30s...

First of all, when I had my short ram, I noticed a huge difference over the stock breather box which had a hole that was literally almost this big O heh. It was louder, sounded agressive, not dirty, and there was definately more power all throughout. When I installed my own CAI, I noticed HUGE differences in power. You will gain a BUNCH, I mean a BUNCH of power from 1500-4500, and maybe lose a little bit up top, but it's ok because you have such a better response. To let you know, I have a catback 2.25" exhaust with a nice magnaflow muffler (and yes, my old muffler made a huge difference in performance, make sure you buy a nice one) and the resinator removed. I would reccommend the CAI, it's cool, do it yourself if you can
