Step right up and see the BIG LOSER!!!

Yeah, I will admit it everyone, I am a big loser. Why you ask? Well I will tell you.

I have a 96 I30 AND.....

This weekend I thought I would be installing my 2000 to 2003 Rear view mirror with auto dim and digital compass, but came to find out that it WONT WORK!!!! The plugs are DIFFERENT and the design of the mirror is DIFFERENT!!!!

Then I thought I would be installing my 97 Maxima SE guage cluster with white faced guages, but came to find out it is almost impossible to keep it LEGAL since I can't freeking buy a NEW SPEEDO from the dealer or any parts shop OTHER THAN MY ORIGINAL SPEEDO on MY CAR since they use the VIN to set the mielage!!!

So, what can I FAIL AT NEXT!!!!! Let me buy more stuff thinking that I can install it in my car only to find out that I CAN'T!!!!!

OK everyone, thank you for stopping at the BIG LOSER ATTRACTION, please step to your left and exit the tent.....

You could get both the mirror to work and the mileage corrected if you really wanted to.

You loser!

As long as you got the mirror, a button to put it to the winshield, a wiring kit with the harness to fit the mirror (then all you gotta do is splice and solder into the I30 ones) and of course, a temp gauge with around 10' of wire w/ resistant tubing. That's it. It's really not that hard.

If you don't have a harness to fit into the mirror and don't know WHICH model Gentex Mirror you have, THEN that's going to be a b*tch. Other than that it's fairly simple. Just run the wires down the headline to the A pillars and and down through the dash and firewall. I was just readin up on it and it's really not that difficult at all.

As for the gauges, I don't know. Wish I could help, but me personally on my setup I love just the chrome gauge rings and colored red needles. Only thing left to do is make the light output hyperwight with some 6LED 194 Wedges I think those are the ones atleast. Maybe even the Wood Gauge Bezel, but anyway enough bout me, I hope you can end up doing this conversion man. Good Luck.

hahah....guess im a loser too...wanna hear my sad story...well it starts with me getting my first part for my i30...the strut bar...came on fine and changed the handling of the car....so that was good...then came the other stuff...i had the cefiro emblems but never got around to installing them...
then theres the headlamps...i got 100w purple ones...nothing happened with that yet...one burned out....another thing that came was this aluminum gauge bezel from ebay...sucked *** cause it kept popping out...then when one of my fogs burned out i replaced both of them wid 100w's u know what happened next...now they both dont work...i bought an intake w.o reading the description...and totally wierded out my engine...got in a car accident when i tried to drift...what else??cant remember but the list goes on...i've tried so much to mod my car and im about to quit..... seriously i've always wanted to tune a car but the thing just keeps eating my money and then fails me...im gonna try a few more things and then thats it...if they dont work i'll never tune another luxo for the rest of my life...

cefiro8701: Hang in there buddy. Don;t give up on yourself yet. I mean hell, if I am not giving up then you definately can not give up. lol

If you need a swift kick in the *** to get you back on track, I30tMikeD will do that for you LOL.

I have had a few Pm today form guys that have a lot of info on how I can get these mods done, so I am sure someone will PM you as well. It does suck though, when you get your new part and your all excited to get it done only to have something crap out or go wrong. Story of my life LOL.

If things don't start going better for you and I, maybe we can get together for a beer and drown our sorrows in the mug. LOL

Keep trying buddy. have a good night.

Alright, here is an updated on my loserness. I took my 97 Max guage cluster off at a custom shop today. It looks like they do more power and engine work, but they owner said he has done odometer stuff in the past and thinks that he can set the odometer for me. It may cost me like $75 bucks, but that's cheaper than buying a new clsuter IF I COULD, and it will all be taken car of then. This way I don't have to worry about taking out the needle and putting it in the original guage cluster on my I30.

Wish me luck guys. OH PLEASE LET THIS WORK!!!!!!!!

i mean honestly i've spent way too much on my 30...and im only gonna spend a few more times and if it dont work by the time im 18...im buying an sc400...i know its prolly a turn for the worse what with the gas and all...but yeah....anyone of u guys live in california?none huh?

THe needle probably rubs.

The way to check it is to take just the speeod portion of the cluster out of the old cluster and the new one and swithc them. See if the gauge works in the opposite clucter. ALSO, check to see if the needle might be rubbing.

If worst comes to worse, I can do the face-swapping surgery on the speedos and put the white face on the old stock cluster. It will take me a few hours, but I can do it for you.
Where did you buy the white-faced cluster?

I am pretty sure the needle is not rubbing. I swapped out the speedo of the cluster and switched it with the new one, the old one works fine, the new one not so fine.

I purchased the white face cluster on Ebay and it said it was in mint condition. I believe them still, even though the speedo is not working all the way now.

I am wondering if when the shop here in town took the speedo apart to set the mielage, if maybe something is not hooked back up or something???? Anyway, it is at their shop now for them to take a look at it, but I am not paying any more for this damn mod! Anyone want to see what a guage cluster looks like with all white guages with red needles and the speedo black with a white needle??????/ LOL I GOT IT!!!!

phenryiv1: I may take you up on the face and needle swap. Be careful. lol Thanks for the help

I don't mind doing it. I have done it 4 times in the past, so it is not a huge deal. Just DON'T let them f-up your original speedo or I will not be able to help you.

I would bet that they messed it up when setting the mileage. What shop was it, and how much did you pay them?

It was a shop out in Chantilly, to be honest, i would have to look at the business card to tell you who they were. I paid $108 for them to set the meilage. I don't mind paying that, but then to have the needle not work, forget it. i don't want to pay any more money for this, Im tired and broke.

Please let me have a break someone!!!

Thanks again.

If they were not careful, they could have easily broken the fragile wound springs that make the speedo work. Could you move the needle with your hand or finger? If so, did it move normally?

Most likely, they broke it, in which case they should refund your money, and potentially replace your cluster.

Yeah, I could move the needle with my finger easily. It seemed to work fine (with my finger). I mean when I moved it up the dial and let go, it would fall back down to the stop.

I hope they fell the same way you do about the replacing the money thing. lol Somehow, i don't think they will Oh well, I am waiting for them to call me today and let me know what they found out. They better not hit me with another charge or they can keep the damn speedo! lol

Thanks for the help. I will let you know what happens. Have a great day!
